I get to have one this afternoon, steam has been getting slower and slower since surgery. Is there any pain involved with this event? I sure don't want things to completely close up. Any info would be appreciated.

I would say more discomfort than pain. Lidocaine gel is inserted into the penis first, then the scope. My technician was gentle with the gel and it wasn't too bad. The only pain I experienced is when I already had a blockage and the doctor used dilation to free it up. Again, more discomfort than pain, not as bad as I had imagined. But, I could be happy if I did not have to get another one. You will be fine. It is better to take care of the blockage problem as soon as possible. I ended up getting surgery done under anesthesia to finally open up the blockage. So far so good. The longer you let it go, the harder it is to fix. David and I don't want any new members in the "plugged up club". Good luck and don't worry about it. Squid.

Neal,  I had a problem with a bladder neck stricture about six months after surgery.  Squid covered the procedure very well.  The cysto itself was a non-event.  The flexible dilating sounds used to open things up were somewhat uncomfortable.  If you have to use the larger dia. metal sounds, they will curl your toes.  The good news is that the procedure works well most of the time.  Complications like David, kbars, and squid had are not the norm.  Google "dilating sounds" for some pictures.

I have had 5 scopings so far, I only ever had one, that didn't hurt me. Had one under emergency conditions that was traumatic and terrible, would never want to go through that again. The pain jell needs to be in there at least 15-20 minutes, so don't let the doctor rush that part, I am suppose to have another one next Monday, but based on current post radiation pain, not sure its going to happen. You can be asked to be sedated locally ahead of time, my dr. uses 100 mg of demoral administered in the hip, and allows 30 minutes for it to do its job. It helps, but doesn't cure that whole issue.

Hopefully your slowing down will be a "one fix" procedure, and not a chronic condition. Good luck.

If i had to rank cystoscopy biopsy and the robotic surgery in order, the cystoscopy was by far the most uncomfortable.  Perhaps it was because it was the first and I didnt know what to expect but it really was not fun.  No much pain afterwards but definently not a fun procedure.

In the "old" days, they use to do with a rigid scope, that hurts too much to think about. Now, they use the flexible scopes, with enough numbing gell, once it gets into the urethra, not as bad. Also, its easier for the doc when one is circumsised. Always more difficult with us guys that are still covered.

Yea I think the cystoscopy was the worst of the 3. That was the first thing I asked was it flexible. He said he had never seen this before. But once he got the scope in he said everything looked good. He gave me meds for the burning called Prosed DS makes urine blue not orange. I guess I should of posted the update in this thread.

I may be a bit late on this but I had a couple of flexable scopes done.  I also had a few colligen injections into the sphincter using a rigid scope!!   The flex scope was nothing but a little pressure.  I would not worry about it much!
