Jeff, leave the TENS unit in storage and let this natural process continue. You are on a good roll here, don't muck it up by playing with your experiments, Dr. F.
This has been really good news to hear from you this week. I hope the acceleration takes on light speed for you and you report back in a very short time that all is well and somewhat forgotten.
Best of luck man,
Sonny

Jeff,
I was going to say call the Physical Therapist that works with your Uro, but them I remembered she is that little of fountain of optimism who told you about
a month ago that you'd never ever improve. If I were you I'd try the TENS and Kegel more than ever. If you were implying you have an appt. to start working on the sling personally I would not consider it for at least three months more.

Jeff,
Sounds really cool...hope you buzz your way to dryness. But, like the others have said, don't get carried away with that scope.

Here's the unpleasant update.
The buzz heading off to the sunset taking the new found improvements with it. Darn it!!!
I noticed fewer and fewer buzzes on Saturday. Sunday I only had one in the morning and today I only had one about
10 am. My leak rate is back up to the 300ml level.
So I guess I'll have something to discuss with the Uro on Friday.
This sudden burst of success has given me more patience. I will not do anything rash and will enjoy another 3 months with depends, A+D ointment, and my pee pad purse.
Oh well. It was nice while it lasted.

Steve,
More like two squirts forward and one squirt back. Like a
fluidic nozzle
except this one sprays the toilet and my underwear. The fun never stops.

Jeff, we make such a pair on the opposite ends of things.
You can't stop on your own.
And I can't go on my own.
Too bad we can't help give the other what they need to work properly.

David,
Yep. Just 70 um. 0.002" That's all it is. The difference between soaked pants and dry. The difference between plugged up and flowing.
Not much tolerance built into this machine. It's amazing anyone's equipment works.

I was watching Big Bang Theory just now and I got the buzz. (It was not because of Penny. Honest!)

Hi Jeff sorry to hear about
your set back I was thinking about
you a couple of days ago we went to Pattaya for the water festival I got soaked for 2 days what came across my mind is that if you were there you would be able to go for 2 days without your pee pads in fact I think that they would be most uncomfortable soaking wet for 9 hours solid anyway do not give up on the incontinence I am sure you will get there in the end I go for my second PSA test on Friday (if I can get into Bangkok that is) not really looking forward to it I am seriously thinking of not getting them done in future

That cell phone vibrating in my pocket feeling is an great descript
ion for some of the sensations I go through as I slowly regain my continence. Sometimes, with Depends in place, I'll think: did I just pee or is there a cat purring in my pocket. My experience now these six months, is nighttime everything is cool, daytime with little activity fine, with activity, gardening, mowing lawn etc, leakage, stress leakage I think they call it. The most perplexing thing to me thus far is how inconsistent continence recovery has been. Just when I think I'm making real progress- lots of leaks and squirts, then other days I feel much more the master of that nether domain. It gets better, but not on some consistent curve you can count on. That's been my experience.

I would be willing to try electrical stimulation (TENS).
Is there any info available?
Thanks,

Hey Spacer,
I sent an email in reply to yours. .
Welcome to Healing Well. Don't worry. You are not intruding at all. That's why we're here. Paraphrasing someone "We feel your pain."
I bought my unit from LG medical. It cost about
$70-80 with the extra leads.
http://www.lgmedsupply.com/tecodiparesy.html
I think it is called the 7000 or something like that.
I bought more leads at the local pharmacy after I peed all over the original ones a couple of times.
My physical therapist agreed that my settings were right where they should be. One pulse every 2 seconds, each pulse was 100ms of 70 Hz. I found the setting experimentally and then later on line. My experimental settings were very close.
The electrical stimulation caused me to contract and kegel involuntarily. As you change duration you can feel the muscles contact deeper in the body.
At the time I was leaking so much I could not function. More than 500 ml /day. No control at all. I would really pound myself with the unit. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off 20 minutes on again. By the end of that hour I was absolutely exhausted. Muscles were so tired. I don't know if it did anything to speed my recovery but at least I tried.
I am at 250 ml/day now.
How much do you leak? How far out from surgery are you? What did you have?
Give it a try. It might work for you. If not you can use it to exercise your abs. It makes great toy. (Can't wait to wire it to the doorbell this Halloween. )
Good Luck,
Jeff

Jeff,
I had a radical prostatectomy last October; about
7 months out now.
I am going through about
6 pads per day & not seeing any improvement. I think I'll try the TENS unit. It may help.
Thanks

Spacer,
Your question inspired me to use the TENS unit again. I ran it for about
25 minutes last night before bed and managed to hold my pee while I did it! That is a big difference from when I did it 5-6 months ago. I was exhausted at the end but stayed dry thgough the night as usual. I won't know if it made any difference until tomorrow morning when I do my morning weigh in.
I will do it again tonight while I have the unit out.
It is the LG7000. It has plenty of flexibility and enough adjustability in the power setting to go from a mild tickle to an eye popping pulse.
Play with proper placement so it feels like you are kegeling.
Good luck.

I have been using my EMS/Tens unit every other day for 20 seconds on, 20 sec off, for 20 minutes total.
I have been doing this for about
3 weeks now.
PF muscle feels a little tired afterward.
Hope to see a little improvement soon but not much yet.
Some physiotherapists trained in this area say it helps.

Spacer,
20 seconds on and 20 sec off! That is a long cycle. I was using a short pulse about
1/10 sec every 2 seconds. I will try your combination for "fun".
I am steadily getting better but I still have miles to go. I improve by 1 ml per day but I'm at 150 ml per day now. Keep it up and I'll be dry in October. 15 months. Sigh.
