Things They Didn't Tell Me And/Or I Didn't Know To Ask After Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Twas for English Alf indeed. But for the subject (sagging scrotum)...no swelling but just hangin low and a tad tender. my six week checkup at Henry Ford is 3/30/10 so will see what Dr. Peabody has to say.

74 years old 5' 11" - 195 lbs with zero medical issues (other then the big C).
dealt with BPH for many years and six month PSA's. Once PSA hit 4.0 the needle biopsy's began. After the third and last on 12/09 two of 12 cores came back positive 3+4=7 (PSA's were at 6.8). Precautionary CT and bone scans negative with the assumption the C was contained. Vattikuti robotic prostatectomy 2/10/10. Overnight at Henry Ford, penile catheter came out before discharge the following afternoon. Since my prostate was the size of a lime (100cc's) the pubic catheter had to stay in three extra days due to extra work necessary to attach the urethra to the bladder (Thursday to Friday)...Upon removal bladder went into spasm HURT LIKE HELL and nurse had to input a belladonna and morphine (or something similar) suppository up my butt which killed the pain. Fast foreword to today. Same thee female light day pads since last evenings shower.

Alfred, since the subject is in general terms concerning PCa diagnosis after effect, then consideration of the different aspects of Radiation therepy would fit nicely. Since you are organizing it, a several subsection for each (surgery, radiation, other procedures, AS) would sorta sort things out. Go for it, if you want..

I think it is fair to call a page "things you wished you had known before TREATMENT" and then a break down by type (with the appropriate haven't been there, don't know that one disclaimer where no one has contributed).

I was thinking of adding a bit more useful info to the sticky thread at the top of the page, especially with regard to tips etc relating to Radiation Therapy, but I was only going to do so once I'd finished my own sessions of RT so that I would be doing it when I had a bit more first-hand knowledge.

Off to session #19 today. Not too bad apart from the tiredness and odd bit of aching in lower abdomen

What an incredible amount of information you have all shared. Since my husband is leaning toward surgery, I am beginning to make mental lists of all the things we need to have on hand. Thank you all for the taking time to post and the incredible generosity you have demonstrated in doing so.

I think you are officially in the "Information Overload Phase" of prostate cancer and we do understand that well. You are walking a path many of us have walked or are still walking now.

If we knew the details we would find some of our fellow participants are dealing with the serious health effects as they reach out here to help others. I can only guess at motive but this Forum benefits from their efforts and I applaud them and welcome the participation of seasoned veterans. They do much good.

So thanks for stopping by and we hope to have helped you in some way, get over the life changing events you must deal with now. After you read my post look at my signature block and read it. I hope you realize many of us have dealt with this cancer and lived to tell the story. I found much comfort in coming to know that in 2004 and 2005 and I learned as you are trying to learn now.
