BRIAN - congrats on such a good article - a very good clearly detailled writing - a non-scary approach to the confusing world of prostate cancer.... a must read for the newbies... helps clear out some of the cobwebs...

My next adventure is on September 21st -- to meet the anesthesiologist. Showtime is September 28th. I'm planning to take that week off work and then... Not quite sure what to expect. Muted aftereffects, I hope. Followed by a cure...

Age 50. Psa 10/09 3.05; 05/10 9.54; 06/10 5.54; 07/10 2.75 (never let them tell you green tea doesn't help).
Three of eight biopsy cores positive (10percent/10/5). Gleason 6. T1c.
"mapped" on august 27th.
Anesthesiologist on sept 21st unless something changes.
Brachytherapy procedure sept 28th unless something changes.

brian, that is what we all hope for, so we will join in with you, that your treatment path does the job on the first pass. the guys here that have gone your "seeding" route will be happy to talk you through any part of that method, and life after the treatment. they have done well with it so far. i too, wished to have gone that route originally, but unfortanately, my circumstances/numbers didn't work out for that.

Brian, for me the "mapping" was the worst part of the whole process so the rest should be a piece of cake.  I'm now almost two years post-brachytherapy with no problems and no side effects.  There are a few of us on this forum and our experience is pretty much the same...non-invasive procedure, little pain and back to action in a couple of days.  You can read my "journey" if you are so inclined by selecting the link in my signature.  Good luck and please let us know your progress.

i carefully read all the BT threads i could find here including yours, which i found very encouraging and played a big role in electing this therapy. thank you for writing it. personally i thought the biopsy was worse than the mapping. So there is definitely a positive trend that will hopefully continue!

Hi Brian:

Actually that was very nice of you to tell me that my story was helpful to you.  I had a similar experience when first joining this forum by reading "JustJulie" whose hubby had BT with few side effects.  Given your broader forum, i.e. the "Globe and Mail", it's likely your words will help move more men to consider less invasive treatments with better QOL.  In my mind that's a good thing.
