After cancer surgery 16 months ago, I had  surgery two weeks ago to place a Coloplast implant.  I am still recovering but am not sure if my present symptoms are normal.  The device was left partially inflated by the surgeon and is very uncomfortable.  They plan to leave it this way for 6 weeks.  Also, the inflation ball and deflation valve are hard to reach and seem like they will be difficult to actuate.  I am numb on the side where the resevoir has been placed.  My surgeon assures me that all is normal.  What have been the experiences of others?

I'm not there yet, but the implant is a strong possibility for me as well. I'll be watching your reports.

The things you describe are consistent with what I have heard from others on the forum over the last year.

You need to join the "penileimplants" group on Yahoo Groups. There are over a hundred members who can relate very well to your experience.

I haven't had the surgery yet, but your experience so far is very common. The biggest after effect seems to be the six weeks of partial inflation, which for some men, can be very painful. I think it depends on how many surgeries one has had, if you tolerate pain very well, how active, etc.

I had by-pass surgery in 2005 so I don't expect the pain to be bad for me at all.

Thanks verymuch. Went for my 2 week followup today and the docs are happy.  It is beginning to feel better but will be nice to talk to people who have had this.

I could not find the yahoo group either. I am probably going to be in line for sphincter implant and am considering getting both done, if I can. I was wondering about a comparision of the AMS and Coloplast penile implants. What did you find out about the comparitive differences?

I had my implant procedure, AMS, in December 2009 and activated in February 2010. I, too, was sore and numb. It will get better with time. After nine months, I still have a little discomfort in my scrotum after sitting in the same position for too long. I say that, but I also have a AUS implant with another bulb in my scrotum. All in all, I can't complain.

Forgot to say that the Yahoo Group has 359 members and there are between 100 t0 150 emails posted a month. Some are quite descriptive about implant issues so be warned...

There have been a few guys that felt they made a big mistake, mainly because they expected to recover all their lost inches from PCA Surgery or Peyronies Disease. Neither Coloplast or the AMS implant can give you back inches, AMS will expand up to an inch but it takes 18 months. It also gives back girth so most guys are at least 2 inches in diameter after the implant.
