Dx Stories with PSA 10-20 Range

I'm looking for outcomes from folks with similar PSA numbers as myself (PSA 12.76, 51yrs old) I haven't read too from this demographic.

I think I perfer the surgery option but some folks say once the PC is beyond the gland it's pointless (I think they mean not cureative). I've read outcomes for locally confined PC with surgery followed by RT are better than RT alone.

I was PSA 7 on Proscar so that's really PSA 14..Gleason 9. Chances with surgery 50-50..I took those odds. Surgery failed. just completed SRT and am on hormones. PSA undetectable at this point..

Many doctors feel that surgery, while it might / probably will fail, reduces the tumor volume to very low levels and gives radiation and ADT a much better chance of working...

It should be noted that this treatment path also extracts the maximum amount of money from the patient..

I more or less fit your situation. I chose surgery and PSA stayed at 0.0, then went to 0.1 and stayed for several months, then went to 0.15 and was .3 when I started salvage radiation. I don't regret the surgery decision because I was thought to be "Stage 2" when I went into surgery, but came out with "Stage 3," meaning I had extra-capsular extension.

My understanding is if the cancer has spread beyond the capsule it still MIGHT be curative. All of this depends on the surgeon taking a wide-enough margin and/or some type of radiation treatment after surgery.

However, I would suggest you take some time and talk with BOTH a surgeon AND a radiation oncologist about your specific numbers, biopsy report, and other test results.

Went into surgery with PSA of over 16, Gleason 7. Came out with Gleason 7 and Stage II, had fairly fast BCR - less then a year, and now awaiting final answer on whether the SRT worked for me or not. You never know what you are going to get.
