going in for a psa blood test, when should i cutoff sex and bike riding ??

i heard 48 hours but when I asked to take a second test because I had had sex the night before the first one the doc told me it wouldn't make much of a difference at all and the numbers proved him right.

3 days is the standard, even if the unofficial standard. Blood test first, then the DRE...

are we talking about a man with, or without a prostate? I was under the impression that the 2-3 days abstinence was only for men with a prostate intact. I may be wrong.

Good point, David. CVC has 250 posts and has been here since 2008, so he could be AS or treated.

I think that the suggestions we have in mind are for pre-surgery folks. I'm not sure that we have ever discussed what poking and indignities a "treated", but still present, prostate might take before pumping out a bit more PSA.

I asked the same question last month when Jeff was going for his 3 month PSA check (he still has a prostate as having Brachytherapy). We decided to leave it the 3 days just in case.

cvc is a regular at HW, posting on the Diabetes site, but new (April) to us. In another thread, he says his gland is intact and he is currently weighing his options for treatment.

yup gland is intact but enlarged, last psa was .99, i hover around all the sites, guess im anal turn
