Curious if anyone on board has used dr duke bahn, Ventura California
For Doppler color ultrasound, and what was there impressions
Good or bad, or do they know any one that has used them

Tiger it depends for what reason you need him.

Dr. Bahn is reputable for his work with biopsies. He also specializes in cryotherapy and immunotherapy. I know a couple men that have seen him from my UsTOO group in Las Vegas and they liked him for their cryotherapy. I would note that both eventually had biochemical relapse and this is consistent with studies showing that cryotherapy is less effective in intermediate/high risk cases.

Dr. Bahn is a board certified radiologist in California. To my knowledge his primary specialty is cryotherapy and color doppler biopsies. I will see him again in September at the 2011 PCRI event.

Tony is correct; Bahn's speciality is cryosurgery which I would not recommend as there are other more effective treatments. For Color Doppler and finding hard to discover PC and for monitoring patients on AS he is excellent. He is also excellent for staging patients already Dxed with PC and identifying if reoccurrent PC is local or systemic. Proper staging is critical, especially if you are considering surgery as the size and location of a tumor will determine the probibility of a successful surgery. The good thing about Bahn is that he does not push his speciality, cryo, if other treatments will have a better outcome.

If one did not have the color doppler studies done before treatment, are they still usefull after treatment? In a case like mine, would color doppler at some point after the initial treatment of IMRT and brachytherapy reveal the extent of tumor control or ablation?

I'd like to correct some information about Dr Lee and his start with prostate cancer. Dr Lee told us during our office visits that he was at a conference at which the first color-Doppler ultrasound was being demonstrated and they called for someone to be a test patient. Dr Lee volunteered. And it was then that he discovered his own prostate cancer. He changed his practice from a general radiologist to radiology only relating to the prostate. My husband was diagnosed by Dr Lee in March 1996, and treated with cryotherapy by Dr Lee, assisted by Dr Badalament, in October 1996. He remains cancer free now (April 2012). We returned to him every six months for three years and each time he was tested as though he had never been seen before. In 2001 we were also tested by Dr Bahn in Ventura. My husband is tested every 6 months. No change.

Many people have access to the same ultrasound and cryo equipment that Dr Lee uses.....but Dr Lee is an artist at both. So comparing statistics for cryo in general is not at all the same as Dr Lee's statistics. He is the ultimate artist. My husband and I were talking about him today. We both agree. He is without a doubt the best physician we have ever known, and believe me, we have encountered more than a hundred.
