UPDATE-2 (AUG 4, PAGE 3): At peace and in God’s hands at age 51, after 15 months of stage-4 cancer

My soulmate, my best friend, my wife, the mother of my children and my partner through our cancers (PC in my case), has passed away from renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) & renal failure. Elaine was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer, which has a 5-year survival rate of 5%.   Her strong physical condition at the time of diagnosis, coupled with her active efforts throughout her illness to “stack the odds in her favor” gave her a quality life and longevity beyond the stage-4 median survival rate. In addition to being stage-4, her biopsy “Fuhrman” grade was 4.   Similar to the PC Gleason score, the Fuhrman grade (determined by a pathologist) is used for determining the aggressiveness of the cancer cells.   Kidney cancers are given a Fuhrman grade on a scale of 1 through 4; the higher the Fuhrman score the worse the outlook (prognosis).   Despite these very unfavorable case characteristics (stage-4, Fuhrman 4), she did not give up on a positive outlook, hope or efforts until the end.   The end, however, came very quickly after a 16-day hospital stay in late-June when the doctors recommended that she go home under hospice care.   That news was devastating to her and she lived only 3 more days at home. Been afraid of seeing this post for some time. I offer both my sympathy and condolences to you, your kids, your extended family, and all that knew your wife. I can't pretend to know how it must feel, but I fully empathize with you in every possible way. May she remain always in your heart, and may she rest in peace for eternity.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and know that there is little I can say that would be of any solace to you. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

It is a small world - I remember going to Key West about 1979 for a winter weekend - seemed like everyone was from somewhere else until I found a small out-of-the-way two or three table restaurant where the owner's wife was making fresh key lime pies. With real key limes. Sat and talked for a few hours, and I left wishing I could move. Despite all the rest I did and saw, that is what I remember most.

I am so, so sorry to hear this dreaded news. My heart is broken for you. May the peace of the Lord be with you and your children while you grieve the loss of your soulmate. She was quite the woman and certainly led a very productive and fulfilling life. This news is too sad for words.
