A lot of us did not have the luxury of having visited HW before our treatments, and didn't have a clue that asking about
how many surgeries might be important. I accidentally asked, and because my surgeon had been doing
open for 20+ years, I got the answer to the question I asked, not the one I should have asked. I was on the early edge of his DaVinci experience, but "late in life" when total surgeries are considered.
Perhaps I would have done better with a mega-doc, but I tend to think that my issues stem from waiting until I had more cancer than prostate, to get my first PSA.
So I will say that although the experience of the surgeon is critical, if you didn't know that, there is no value in hindsight. It only helps those who follow us. No reason to dig at that question that I can see.
Unhappy was about a year, maybe a little more, out of surgery when I first arrived. He was looking forward to getting over the side effects, and I still continue to cheer for him in that mission. But, at the same time, I got a more realistic story from my surgeon and rad. oncologist. They gave me ~80 and 70% shots at becoming cancer-free, as I remember. After surgery, the post-op path made my uro say something along the lines of "you know how I told you 5 years without surgery? It was probably 2 years, maybe less ...."
So, am I happy, at 2 years out to still be in pads and with total ED with a risng PSA? No. In fact I've just started down the path of taking a "shot" at Trimix.
That will generate a new "journey" thread for me. Maybe I can squeeze it in before I have to start HT.
By the way, my uro is starting to talk about better leakage solutions as well.
It is what it is - the "new normal".
