The hard part is remembering which locker you put your clothes in.. At #20 you MAY have something to talk about...But maybe not..What kind of machine are you going under?

Good luck,Gene, as you start your 39 treatments, same number I had. Hope you stay clear of any early side effects. The rest of it is more like an endurance contest in my opinion. Keep us posted of your RT journey.

I echo the trudge and endurance comments. The routine can get old after a while. But, other than being tediuous, I had minor and temporary side effects .. urgency, frequency, and a hemmorhoid that was unhappy at times. It all cleared up within 2 weeks of finishing treatments. Good luck!

Gene, I finished 44 treatments IMRT on Oct 4th.  As everyone says worst part is getting there.  Luckily, I didn't have to far to go and did it after work. Make sure you blatter is full and rectum is empty is the advice my Dr. told me. Funny thing, after about the 7th or 8th treatment I had the cycle of the machine memorized at which position it would stop at. Then one day it completly changed.  I asked the tech. why. She said she could tell I had it all memorized and she was just messing with me!!

I had very little SE's, but about midway through, don't trust a fart!! smhair

I echo the locker comment. Also had some rectal bleeding, but all in all I didn't think it was that big a deal (side effect wise). I scheduled it for the end of the day, so I went home right after which I think helped. One of the biggest anxieties was trying not to miss a day as snow storm after snowstorm hit us during my treatments.

bertb, your advice of the empty rectum... these folks said not to do an enema everyday, but for the simulated treatment, they wanted me to.  Now I'm wondering if I should do enema each day, after your comment.  Advice?

Fairwind, I don't knw what kind of machine.  I have little chips implanted which is supposed to guide the radiation.  Does that answer your question?  I'll ask this p.m. when I'll have my 3rd treatment.

 

I was nervous about my implants (IPP & AUS) but doc both urologist & oncolongist says it will not affect them or deflect them.  Hope they are right.

No way.

Totally unpredictable as to whether doing an enema has any positive effects. What cam make the rectum move is gas, physiology, weight gain or loss during the treatment period, etc. You little "chips" will help miss the rectum with radiation.

Talk to your doctor...

Gene, sorry if I wasn't clear. My doctor only said to empty as in "take a dump" before the treatment. Just change up your daily routine that's all. I drank a 32 oz bottle of water on my way over to treatment to fill my bladder. I asked the tech if that was enough and she said 8 to 10 would be enough. Made me feel better not to have to drink that much. Sorry if I confused you. Good Luck!

I am instructed to drink 20 oz of water withing 20 minues of treatments.  # 5 tomorrow.  So far si good.
