4.5 year update - still in the "0" club

I just got my yearly PSA test result back, and it is still <0.1. I have to say that the PSA anxiety is nearly gone, and I am feeling confident that I have beaten this thing.

Looking back and thinking about what I might have done differently, two things come to mind. First, I probably should have given radiation therapy more serious consideration along with RRP. Although my recovery has been quite fortunate (I am one of those rare guys where sex is actually BETTER after surgery) I know this is usually not the case and would likely discuss IMRT with friends or family if my advice were requested about a loved one. Second, I cannot get back the time worrying about tests and outcomes that were mostly out of my control. How I wish I could have controlled my emotions and avoided going to those dark places that in no way helped my decision making or prognosis.

I understand the "wish I could get back all the time I worried" - No matter what you do you are not going to change the PSA by worrying.

Wonderful news, 4 1/2 years out and pulling zeros. Jealous in a good way, lol. Very happy for you. I am in the same rare club as you, can honestly say, sex is as good, if not better than before, as I had zero ED to deal with, despite having surgery. Once I got use to the "dry" part, which didn't take long, I have no complaints there.

Congrats! Just curious: since you would seem to be the poster boy for a successful RP, why are you questioning that decision vis-a-vis IMRT? Also, what was your path for a return to 100% potency?

While RRP has certainly given me a good outcome, it is still major surgery, and I was not one of those guys "on the golf course the next day." The idea of getting a definitive prostate pathology report with its removal is an advantage that attracted me, though there have apparently been a number of advances in imaging and risk assesssment that provide information beyond just the biopsy report. Also, I was biased by my father's good experience with radical prostatectomy.

Possibly just as important as my surgeon's skill in the operating room was his conviction to ED rehabilitation. This included the use of a pump and Cialis soon after surgery, which I followed religiously.

CaPCa, really good to hear from you again. Love to see the old timers and some of my first friends here on HW check back in. Am really glad things are going so good, congrats and wishing you a lifetime fo them.
