So I had the nurse send over my actual bone scan report - I'm getting all me reports together for a 2nd opinion. I probably shouldn't read these - they always scare me!

Anyhow - my PSA is 3.56 (long time propecia use, so probably really double that number).
DX with G9, one core out of 13 - 40% involved. 49 Years Old.

Does this sound like a problem?

"There is a focal area of decreased density with centrally increased density noted in the medial aspect of the left iliac bone, adjacent to the left mid-sacroiliac joint, on the concurrent CT study referenced above (series 2, image 51 and series 3b, image 90). However, this finding is not associated with an area of increased MDP uptake on the current study, making a skeletal metastasis in this location less likely. In addition, the appearance of the lesion on CT is not typical for a metastatic lesion from prostate carcinoma.

While there is no definite evidence of skeletal metastases, radiographic correlation and/or other further imaging is recommended for any clinically relevant sites, such as the focal finding in the left ilium described above, although as discussed above, this finding is not typical in appearance for a skeletal metastasis, and in addition, is not associated with increased tracer uptake. Correlation with the serum PSA level is also recommended. "

I do have soreness (I wouldn't call it pain) in my left hip area from time to time depending on how I sit or if I sit in a certain position too long.

It sounds like they don't like something they saw, but don't associate it to mets.

I had some spots like that - vertebrae that are wearing out too soon.

You really need to ask for clarification from the doctor who did the analysis, or see what the second opinion says in respect to this.

Way too much medical jargon in that statement - ask the doc to translate to non-medical speak. The second opinion is a good thing to get.

Mmmm. An older post raises its head. It actually sounds very much like my report. That's the trouble with bone scans ---- they reveal every bit of active change going on. Most often it turns out to be age or injury related degeneration such as arthritis. The standard X-ray is usually recommended to make a diagnosis.
