What a great day for you. Very nice. I've never owned a boat, despite the fact that Michigan is the Great Lakes State. I grew up in NYC and I still love cities.
But you post brings back fond memories.
The first time I went fishing, I was about 30 years old (not counting crab fishing in Canarsie as a teenager). It was a fantastic experience. This big city boy could not believe that I could be on a boat, throw in a line, do absolutely nothing, and feel totally relaxed whether the fish were biting or not. So, for a few years, I really enjoyed fishing, mostly for perch. Not as much cleaning the fish, but grilling them and eating them was quite good.
In fact, I remember going fishing with the principal of our local high school, who was renowned for his fishing skills. I brought my K-Mart rod and basic tackle and he had all kinds of fancy lures and some electronic fish finder gizmos. I caught twice as many fish as he did, but I also know he got a kick out of that, too! He was also a poker buddy, so we had plenty of stories at our home games.
Never did get to go salmon fishing and eventually as life got busier I got away from fishing all together.
Thanks for bringing back some memories and glad you had a good time! Hope you get to do it a bunch more times.
