I made it through my first ever colonoscopy. One polyp removed. The doctor wants another colonoscopy in 3 years due to the polyp. I need to schedule an appointment to get the biopsy results. I would have done this sooner but I prioritized the cancer stuff ahead of it. However, I did not want to go through all the prostate cancer treatments only to have something like colorectal cancer rear its head.
The biggest discussion was in the treatment room regarding sedation. I had said conscious sedation (Versed & Fentanyl) was fine. That was what I thought the form had said. They told me that an anesthesiologist had been scheduled and they could do Propofol if I wanted. The latter is more expensive. I told them I was past my out-of-pocket for the year. In that case, they told me to go for the Propofol. It is a quicker recovery and that I would not be foggy for a long time afterward. I said cool .. let's do it. I wanted coffee and breakfast right away after this. Once I woke up, I think I was to my car in 15 minutes. My wife took me to Cracker Barrel (another 10 minutes to get there, and no I was not driving) where I had the Smokehouse Breakfast, complete with coffee, oj, smoked sausage, grits, and sorghum molasses for my biscuits. I know, I know .. not health food, but I am Southern Comfort. And, after all the colonoscopy prep, I think I deserved a treat. I think I looked a little spaced out in the restaurant .. but, it was good.
