As a surgery guy, I was biased until I had to do adjuvant RT. Oh, well, ...
My insurance company required me to see a radiation oncologist, and I did consult with some other surgeons (I have distant family members in the medical equipment field who took it upon themselves to set up appointments with some names I could not refuse to talk to).
I was not impressed by RT as a primary therapy, and was refused for seeds.
A big thing that he needs to understand is not just why he chose surgery, but why he did not choose another option. That will help with the mental adjustments later. There is no room for "what-ifs" while trying to heal from whatever treatment is selected.
