Wife's Surgery Completed - Update

Glad your wife is doing well!
Just out of interest, when they remove damaged discs, do they then do a fusion of those vertebrae? Or do they put something in place of the disc?

thanks for all the replies since i last checked

she did fine this morning, but by the time i got home around 2 pm, she was in major pain. what i think happened, is she enjoyed the benefit of the morphine yesterday afternoon and evening. she is able to walk better then before, but still a lot of surgical pain. its only been a little over 24 hours, is what i keep telling her.

i dont know all what the doctor did or didnt do. i am not versed in back surgery. she is asking for a copy of the surgical notes, so that we can tell excactly what was done and not done. i only got to speak to her surgeon for about 3 minutes post surgery, as he was busy on his way to his next surgery.

she is in bed, resting, on some more percolet. still not a bad day post surgery in my opinion. nurses still make the worse patients, trust me.

me, was so shot by the time i got home, i had to lay down for 3 hours to re-coop a bit. hoping tommorow will be an easier day for me, less running around scheduled.

So glad your wife is resting well.  It takes time.  When will she start rehab?  Praying for a complete recovery!

i see my oncologist in 2 weeks, and i will aggressively seek an appointment with the high level urologist in charleston. these bladder spasms are increasing in number and severity.

This should put you in a different direction and hopefully find ways to relieve your pain.  Take care of yourself, too!

today she is having a rougher day. a nurse friend came over and changed her bandaging around the incision. no oozing, but very bruised at the top and the bottom.

David...happy to hear Peg is up and active...and doing better. Give our best to her.

Now, your trip to Charleston will be soon...right?

Hi David, glad to see that your wife came through the surgery ok, amazing what they can do nowadays with keyhole surgery, my 3 back operations were open surgery, but i will NEVER forget that sciatic pain. Now that the pressure is off the nerve she should be a whole lot more comfortable, but any surgery to the spine is painful, and I am sure she will recover well.
