Monday we had our Xmas PC Support Group Meeting and 20 members attended. It was a huge success with all members supporting a young man in his 40's in a wheelchair whose prognosis was 6-8 weeks.
Understandably he teared up when he provided us with an update on his condition. With the silence in the room unbearable, I drew my "spring assisted" knife, opened it one handed, and offered it butt first to my young friend. His eyes opened wider when I yelled "Let's kill the SOB". Another member, a sheriff, stood up to show us his empty holster and announced in jest that he was going to his car to retrieve his firearm.
We had our young friend laughing at our "rough" humor and other members joined in. I discovered that he likes beer so I promised him that I would bring a 6 pack of "Fat Squirrel" ale for him at the next monthly meeting. He promised that he would try to make it and left laughing after thanking us for our support. It felt good to see 19 members and the moderator supporting this man. Yes, PC is grim, but a little humor goes a long way.
