Thanks, Bud, MsWW, Info, and Passages for your thoughts. For now, life is settling down. He does have discomfort and sometimes pain in the pelvic area. The doctor prescribed oxycotin for it which of course helps. The previous doctor had prescribed vicodin which has a high amout of tylenol in it. Current doctor concerned about that and liver; previous doctor apparently didn't.
So treating pain and discomfort and aiming for "normal" days. We have a vacation in Florida coming up in a week and a half and look forward to that!

It will be a week for my husband on the zytiga. No big changes. He hasn't had back pain but the discomfort kicks in so that by late afternoon, he needs to take a oxycotin. We know it is way too soon for any real change.
We leave for Florida on Tuesday, back on Sunday. It will be nice to have a change.
Our next appt. is Feb. 25. Our new doctor will have looked at everything by then so should have more information but we know that we are giving the zytiga a good try. From research, we know the PSA may go up but in many cases come down. And we know it can shrink the tumors.
So waiting, something we aren't terribly good at.

rhwife.....hope you all make it to Florida for vacation. The weather here has been very warm lately....although we don't actually live in Florida...we live about 1.6 miles from the Florida state but get to experience most of the Florida panhandle weather even though we are in Alabama.

Husband has been gaining some of his strength back and we are planning on taking the RV out for awhile between doctor visits that is....so hopefully the weather will continue to stay warm.

Was trying to catch up with my HW readings and saw your post. I am glad to hear that your husband will be trying Zytiga again. I hope it helps with all the discomfort. You mentioned that your husband's pain kicks in late afternoon - interesting because my husbands kicks in around that time too. Wonder why, late afternoon.

I hope you had a restful vacation with many "normal" days.

Welcome back, so glad you could get away, but coming back to Nemo was a hard way to push reality - getting back, limit on abilities, etc. Hopefully the zytiga and your visit on 25th will be encouraging. Take care.

Today we had our appt. It was supposed to have been last Monday but it got postponed to today.
My husband has been on the zytiga just over a month so it is too too soon to see any impact, we think.
His PSA at beginning was 123. He had bloodwork done for this appt and the doctor shared her frustration by showing the report: PSA - over 100. No number! I said that was stupid. We had not had it done at the hospital which is where she is affiliated. So another PSA done today; we'll know if we want to at the end of the week. We do know because of that that it is still over 100; just don't know if it's higher or lower than the baseline. Don't know if we really want to know.
We were able to ask all of our questions, the biggest one about targetted radiation to the tumor, located in the tailbone area. She said we could, there were lots of SEs associated with that that essentially could make my husband feel "lousy". She noted that he seemed to be managing the pain and discomfort with meds. If it should be unbearable we could look into that.
She said we really need to give this zytiga a good run. The PSA may be up. We have a scan scheduled for mid-April so that will be the big indicator.
Having our doctor only 20 minutes away really really takes a lot of stress out of our day. And we do like her. We know she has to move us on and out but she seemed patient with our questions.
So no real news - maybe steady as it goes for now. No changes.
Hope all are doing well - I think of so many of you here. It is comforting.

Passages, just to clarify: the report read "PSA over 100" so the onc couldn't tell us. That's why she had a PSA done today in her office.
My research on zytiga shows that some men react definitively and postively, some don't, and in some, the PSA goes up and then comes down. So that's what we are hoping. Not sure how long the run will be - probably until more growth is shown thru both PSA and the scans.
Scary to have it go over 100, isn't it?
