Today we saw our new local oncologist for the first time. She agree with the two other oncologists that zytiga was an appropriate treatment to try - again.
To summarize: my husband was on zytiga last Jan until mid-March last year. The starting PSA was 20, went down to 14, and then back up to about 20 at which time the doctor took him off of it. We don't know why as consensus seems to be he was not on it nearly enough time to see success or failure.
So he started the prednisone today, twice a day, and will start the zytiga on Saturday.
We like the new doctor, she smiled, and seemed to really know her stuff. I was so worried that we wouldn't like her.
We have our next appt. on Feb. 25th, the next CT scan will be in early April. All local. A drive of 15 minutes beats 45 minutes or an hour into Boston any day!
We feel upbeat, even though we know the PSA will most likely climb. But it will be the next scan that tells the story.
