hi, first I want to thank everybody here for all the advice and for telling me what to expect after every test, it makes so much easier to deal with if you know in advance. I got my results this afternoon I have a gleason of  6 (3+3) in only one of 12 so I know I have plenty of time. I know I can't just do watching and waiting i'd rather fight it now and get on with life but I will not do anything till fall I live for the summers here on the north channel of the saint clair river and if I don't have to give up my summer I won't. anyway doc ordered a cat scan and we'll go from there.

Sorry you've got to deal with that. Enjoy your summer. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Unlikely the CAT scan will show anything but it's a normal precaution many doc do.

The only good is that you should have your choice of treatments - surgery, beam radition, brachy.
The bad news is that you'll have to make a choice.

Yeah, the CAT scan is more a formality, and can serve as a baseline for the future if needed.

Enjoy that summer, you will be practicing AS during that time even if you don't call it that.

If your biopsy is showing the whole story, you are fortunate to have a minimal amount of PC, which
is a good starting point if you have to deal with it.

You have plenty of time, and lots of good options. Investigate them thoroughly. And good luck!

Enjoy your summer.  I was Dx'd in March and have spent a great deal of time researching and calming down.  I'm in a good place now and close to a decision.  Spring is trout season here, and I didn't want to miss that.  Summer here is too hot anyway.  cool   That's why I've waited.  Best of luck!

Great news Carl, congratulations and I'm sure that was a big weight lifted off of your shoulders! Yes you have time to decide what to do, and as Purg stated as you're enjoying your summer you're actually practicing AS; having said that I would suggest you do spend a little time understanding what some of the proactive things are that you could be doing to keep the beast at bay. Excercise, dietary habits and so on.

I did notice your remark about "I know I can't just do watching and waiting i'd rather fight it now" but while you're enjoying your summer (and I understand that as GF/Bill mentioned there are some monster Muskies in the St Clair!!!) it wouldn't hurt to practice the "Active" part of AS!

Again, great news on the biopys - enjoy your summer Carl and we're always here if you need anything.

Riverrunner, with your diagnosis I would take as much time as it takes to do all the research until you feel comfortable with your decision. I am a year out and I am still researching.  The more I research AS the more I become comfortable with it.  Over treatment seems to be a popular subject these days.  When I need to be treated I am leaning towards Brachytherapy. Keep us posted and best of luck.

thanks again guys, I like the advice about being proactive it was already a part of my plan i'm in good shape now but I plan on being in better shape this fall, more exercise less meat and even more veggies and getting more research in. again I can't tell you what a blessing it was to stumble across this site when googling psa and I plan on giving back when I can to help others trying to find there way thru this.

My hubby was also diagnosed as Gleason 6. His Uro recommended AS or brachy if he couldn't handle AS. We met with RO who convinced him he should move forward with brachy.

He did hold off on brachy for a few months because we had vacation plans. He had brachy 4 weeks ago. He saw his PCP this week who told him he should have done AS with a Gleason 6. But, he doesn't have any regrets on his decision.

You have time as others have said to do your research. Doing AS is easier said than done for some.
