GREAT NEWS. Those are amazing numbers! Praying the next PSA numbers are even more amazing! (Think I'll join DGV in eating a chocolate in your honor!)

BTW, I'm interested in what a prostate-friendly diet is. Post-surgery I'm striving for a bowel-friendly diet, but may get tired of that soon.

Thanks everyone for such warm support. I hope next month my PSA is even lower.

I have a troubling concern: If I'm on PARP for a while, will my cancer be gaining a resistance to hormone therapy during that time period so when I have to take something like Zytiga it won't do any good.

This is typical of life with cancer. Even when good things are happening, a part of you can't stop thinking doom and gloom.

Today I ate a Wendy's triple cheeseburger for the first time in a year and a half! Wow!

Tomorrow I'm back to a strict diet.

Resistance happens when you're on the ADT - as the cancer adapts to the onslaught. I would think you'd be better off actually, having had a vacation from it. But there are no guaranties -- you're in terra incognita here, and so far so goodsmilewinkgrin -- what can you do but take it as it comes?

I know what you mean, I have trouble passing a Burger King on an empty stomach. Whopper Jrs call my name. But for simple pleasures try a Sonic burger with grilled onions, pickles, catsup, and mustard for that old time burger taste and enjoyment. Of course there is always a Freddies within a hundred miles if your really hungry.

And I sympathize with your concerns about one treatment neutering another treatment down the road. Its darned if you do and darned if you dont.

Great news! I am researching ABT-888 as we speak for my dad. It has been about 6 months since you started the drug, any updates on your PSA?

Hi Sara Marie,

I do have good news. My PSA went down even further to 1.7. When I started the trial back in May, my PSA was 17. So it seems that the drug is holding, possibly even reducing, the cancer.

This is exciting because ABT-888 is the only other drug I'm taking besides Lupron, and it's held the cancer in check for almost 7 months.

I wish the best of luck for your dad. If he is BRCA2 as well, the drug may benefit him just as well as Zytiga or Xtandi. Let's hope in the future, they come up with ABT combos with other drugs to finally turn this into some chronic condition that is not life threatening.

For newbies the initial post is an older post of JohnKeats which got bumped up by even better news than the initial post and most of the replies from last June. Wonderful news. Todays news has refreshed my faith.
