I had my radical prostatectomy done on 1_6_2014, I'm feeling good my pathology report was good neg margins etc. If there are any construction workers who could weigh in on how long they had to wait before returning to work, have a friend who picked up a trash can a month after surgery and had to go back under the knife

John, if you're talking about lifting scaffolds or any other heavy objects I would get the ok from your uro first. I went back to work the third week after surgery and had some serious pains in the surgery areas just running around Philly estimating jobs.

It was at lease a month before I picked up a grinder or did any real physical work.

Not having a prostatectomy surgery. However, In the past 30 plus years, I've had three major surgeries (lower back, upper neck, etc). I've learned that you have to take it easy for a few weeks after any surgery. Both places where I worked had policies in place that wouldn't allow one to come back to work on 100% duty (did light duty for a couple weeks).

You have to take it easy and good luck on your recovery.

People recover at different rates. I returned to my completely NON physical job after 5 days, but had strict rules about lifting anything heavier than 10 pounds for at least month (it might have been 6 weeks). Thry didn't just carve out our prostates. They did a lot of reconstruction to reconnect the things that used to join at the prostate - and some Stretching is involved. We really need to wait until those new connections firmly healed before we do anything that could pull those new connections apart.
Otherwise, congrats on the good report! You're gonna be fine, but don't do anything rough without your surgeon's approval.

Was on FIVE pound lift limit for about three months, then TEN pound limit for at least two months after that.

I have a desk job.

Hey cmetaiman, if your talking bout the Philly I know GO BIRDS!. I live outside of dc now but I worked all over Philly (roofers local30b) for years. Sounds like your doing good I got a friend who picked up a trash can a month after his operation and he ended back in the hospital. Hard to imagine not picking up anything over 10lbs for a few months but so far my path report came out good neg margins etc. So I don't want to mess up. Always nice talking to someone from my area I'm actually a sand sniffer as my bros in the union use to call me. Have a great day

My brother had RP and works for a car wash, not as much lifting as construction but he was told to say off work for about six weeks.

John, I grew up in the Fairmount section in the sixties/seventies now live in the sub with the wife. Heading off to give blood today for my PSA.

Good luck today, my dad had season tickets 2 rows from the glass right after the broad st bully's days (late 70s early 80s) seen some awsome games. I use to buy a ticket at the spectrum for $3 or $4 and there usually a empty seat somewhere near him and I'd jump in the seat between periods. Anyway good luck wen your numbers come in, oh ya I'm from the Camden/pennsauken area

My surgeon said NO heavy lefting (over 10 pounds) for the first month, nothing over 20 pounds until the second month. After that he said I can do whatever my body tell me to do.
