No, it's not my psa thank goodness. After speaking to my doctor, the benefits manager at work, my 401k manager, and last but not least my Sweet Mandy Rose, I have made the decision to retire after the first of the year. It will be tight for the first 6 months and we will have to save our shekels but what the heck. I got lots of lupron in my system so I should make a good house husband. 300 days to go. yeah skull smhair confused yeah

I retired early and highly recommend it if you can swing it financially. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks and Tom and Jerry, No pun intended, I aint gonna lie its going to be tough. We will have to rely on short term disability pay for the first six months. After that we will be fine. We wont be rich that's for sure but I never aspired to be a millionaire. I guess that goal was realistic

Great news. Congrats!

I hope to follow along someday. But I'm 42 with 5 kids age 16 and under. Retirement is so far away even my imagination can't see it wink

Gedman, I was 42 at DX and to be honest I didn't think I would live to retire. The last 8 years have been good to us. I was smart enough to put disability insurance on most of my loans. The rest of the bills will be paid off with my retirement savings account and all we will owe is for our home and utilities. When I get full retirement benefits in July I will be able to pay all the monthly's with my income and still be able to put 500 a month into savings. Mandy's income has always been for food gas and fun so that won't change. I am very excited and worried all at the same time.

Andrew the best part is I will have more time to meet more of my H/W brothers. Hint Hint

Todd, congratulations...this is a hard decision but I doubt you'll have many regrets.

As someone who retired early 6.5 years ago, I can tell you that there is life on the other side (of working). Unfortunately, I had to go back to work part-time in order to help cover the significant rise in our healthcare insurance, but that's a story for another time.

You'll do well in retirement, my friend.

Hugs and kisses to you and your lovely bride. John and I are soooo looking forward to meeting you in Rochester come September.

I took your advice when I bought a new car a year ago...credit union still had life ins and dis. ins available...little pricy, but for those where that type of insurance is hard to get...it's a big deal....I think I'll go buy a boat... wink smilewinkgrin

Congratulations, Todd. This will give you the best shot at being able to enjoy the rest of your life, as opposed to just working yourself to death. I didn't plan to retire at age 56, but it happened on my behalf for medical reasons. Five years later, I am slowly learning to accept the fact, that I will never be back in the work force. Took me some getting use to. Enjoy the time. The way time flies, those 300 days will buzz right past you.

The nice thing about retirement is that once you settle into it, you intellectually know that you once worked, had a boss, whatever, but you are only alive in the now and now you don't work and really never have. Its like you had a cold, it is gone, you know you had it , remember it . but in no way do you sense it really. Kinda like the way it will be at the end…… a beginning….. in my vast universe anyway. BTW if you if a pic of the galaxy on an apple computer, you can see a pic of a curmudgeon, just to the right and a little lower inside same. Sharp nose, pointing a finger as he spouts. Thats me.

Todd, that's wonderful you could find a path to make it happen. Enjoy the special days, every one of them.

I'd retire today if the numbers worked. Still looking at about 3 and 1/2 years or so.

Todd, that is fantastic news. Was it something I said in our recent phone call. I do remember saying "work isn't all its cracked up to be".

We will be counting the days with you. And you know that Wolfie's Wetweet and Spa will always have room for you when you get down this way.

When we see you in September at GFMPH NY you will be really close to being retired.
