Duke U has a Prostate Clinic in Durham. It is large, comprehensive and with the support of their surgical uros in a clinical setting. It would be hard to find a better all round solution. Duke is a national cancer center for research and treatment. You can have consultation and go elsewhere for treatment. I used the clinic and accompanied another man later who used it.

It sounds like you have already made a decision. What can you find with a second opinion if you have already decided to have primary treatment and the type of that treatment?
Nonetheless, My surgeon there was Cary Robertson. I think he is now at the Raleigh hospital of the Duke constellation. I would trust any of their doctors if you are just looking for another opinion. If you are shopping surgeons that is another matter.
Craig Hall in High Point is also highly recommended by my urologist here in Charlotte who is himself the head of urology at Carolina Medical Center. His name is Chris Teigland.

Kat1964 , at the risk of hijacking you thread, I want to share something about perinueral invasion Pni on biopsy is considered prognostically significant, to this point. On biopsy it may provide an avenue of escape out of the prostate. If the post op pathology shows no escape from prostate, or if a wide margin is take, with escape and without even, and negative margins are attained, its presence be comes, arguably, prognostically of lesser value. I tend to agree as the vast percentage of post op pathology will exhibit PNI. The vast majority of survey patients, do not have a recurrence. The difference is significance. To my knowledge there is no study comparing men with with post op PNI and men who have a recurrence. There are statistics which an individual could compare, using a small pool of men. for instance this forum. Cancer cell in the tunnels around{peri} the nerves{neural} are sticky and do not free fall out but divide out. If this was not true, then a dre , and this possibility exists, could force them out. I suppose it would depend on how invasive and close to the edge the cells have divided to. This could also be an issue an issue with "gay" men and anal sex or with heterosexual couples and anal manipulation. If this portion is TMI, I apologize and/or the mods can edit.

My husband was high risk in 2010 and he was treated at UNC, Chapel Hill. He used Dr. Wallen for surgery and Dr. Chen for adjuvent radiation. We were very pleased with both doctors and the infrastructure at UNC. There are also two nurse navigators to help answer questions or get you to the right source for answers. I would recommend going to UNC for second "review" of your husband's situation.

Your response couldn't have come at a better time. We were just talking about our upcoming appt at Duke. My husband is becoming impatient and wants to "settle " with the first doc we saw.
