Zometa break, possible?

Wondering if it´s "once you start it, you never stop" type therapy with Zometa (zoledronic acid) or whether some doctors have inserted a break for some of you who are on it? My father does not like it for some reason and would like to ask the doctor for a break in treatment.

Shure you can! If you tell your doctor STOP he has to follow, but will give you some warnings. It is not safe to do so, if the patient has active bone metastases and is castration resistant! If he is hormone dependent/naïve with or without bone mets, it might be safe, because early use of zoledronic acid did not prolong survival nor does it significantly increase the time for SREs.

Wash-out time for zoledronic acid is about 5 years, but for denosumab ½ year.

thank you, LowRoad. My father was taking it monthly, now once per three months. Just wondering what is the largest time interval between the injections for Zometa to still remain effective...

Has he tried Xgeva instead of Zometa.

Not sure which typically has least side effects, but I have had non to speak of with Xgeva.
