I am a perfect example of what is written above. I do not believe that injections caused my Peyronie's. The injections merely gave me the erection necessary to notice the problem.
I developed Peyronie's after surgery. After the cath was removed, I noticed that my penis felt different - more dense in some areas deep in the tissue - but I didn't think much of it since my body was in various stages of recovery from surgery. The deformation only became noticeable once I was able to get an erection, which was only possible with injections at that stage (started on week 11). Fortunately, my curvature is minimal (despite significant Peyronie's scar tissue) because the scar tissue is symmetrical and pulling almost equally in all directions.
Dr. Mulhall is indeed one of the authors of the study above. (Last on the list, if that means anything.)
