DW and I took a 2 week trip thru the Scottish Highlands last year. Every little town had it's distillery and I took the opportunity to try an very large number (and amounts in some cases rolleyes ) of single malts. I was astounded at the regional variations and the huge range in the taste. I do like my whiskey smilewinkgrin and Jack and the Jack clones are my drink of choice. We were the only Americans of about 15 couples. The rest were Brits/Scots. I hosted a mini convention almost every night to compare and taste. I kinda think it might have something to do with my developing PCa tongue

Living in the center of bourbon country, I have to suggest that a little bourbon trail adventure might expand your horizons even a bit more. Scotch and Tennessee are fine, but bourbon is the ultimate whisky!!

I married into a Kentucky family forty two years ago so I know bourbon.   Only in the last fifteen years have I successfully introduced Tennessee sour mash.  My parents used to vacation in Scotland and became fond of the wonderful local single malts.   As for me, I love martinis.   At the Florida GFMPH with Sonny and Sherry, 142 worked his Scotch magic and I realized how weak I am!   The stuff is great.   Hope it happens again.

Last week on anniversary dinner night I had an Angel's Envy bourbon and it was marvelous.

I became a true single-malt fan after my PCa diagnosis, so I'll surmise that my affliction and affection are not scotch-caused. But some good single malts have helped me along the way.

I was first introduced to scotch while stuck for months in Russia. The only American whiskey was 4 roses, at $50 a .750 litre bottle. Glenfiddich 18-year old (a really good single-malt) was $9 per 1.75 litre bottle. Guess what I tried?

By the way, for those who care, the other night we did a distillery-sponsored comparison of Aberlour A'Bunadh cask strength, batches 45 & 46. Batch 45 was the hands-down winner. If you like Sherry cask finish, don't waste the money on 46 if a 45 is available. I'll be checking shelves for another batch 45 tomorrow, and if there is one, it will be on the GFMPH tasting lineup.

Jack, I am already working on a bottle or two for September. And there may still be the remnants of a classic bottle in Jeff's basement corner.

Good on you. I'm a Scot living in England.

I'm only 10 days post op but I've invited some friends, people I've known since my schooldays, round for a little party. Might as well 'get busy living'. I love the Shawshank Redemption.

The bar is open. Enjoy that Scotch.

As for 142's scotch...well, it's like smoke literally steaming out of my ears! Whew!

With that said, I am not a big drinker.
