Four years post surgery, and

I just got back from the uro, where I got the good news that four years post surgery, my PSA remains less than 0.01 (undetectable).  May it ever be so for all of us.  That would be my wish.

And, since this topic comes up from time to time, yes, he did perform a DRE during the visit.

I asked him if I could change to yearly visits instead of every six months, and he said he would like to continue at the 6-month interval for a few more years.

I had some misgivings about the outcome this time, so the good news was quite a relief.

Ravineman: the topic of DRE's after a prostatectomy has been debated in several threads here on HW. Some uros do them, and some don't. My uro assures me that a DRE, even in the absence of a prostate, can reveal developing problems in their early stages. I"ve been through this so many times that it's now a relatively minor inconvenience.

clocknut: yes I am new here but this strikes me as unnecessary. All the same, my GP is a woman, and if she wants to continue to a DRE every year, I won't mind. And since my Pca was not detected with her DRE anyway, I will wonder what if anything she will ever discover doing this.

After my RP, a DRE is nothing that concerns me.

My Urologist's DRE will not be as "fun" but if he detects something early, I am fine with it.

Congrats!!! My wish as well. I hope it stays where it is.

That's great...as expected.

No need for "...misgivings about the outcome..."   With 3+4 and a favorable pathology, plus a low (below 10ng/mL) pre-surgery PSA, the results you've had are absolutely as you should expect.  I posted the Sloan-Kettering post-RP nomogram earlier today for another poster, so I ran your inputs through it...you are absolutely "good-to-go!!!"
