Wade,
Im new here, and just went through my bought of finding out i have pc. Same situation as you.. 1 core out of 12 positive, and a very small % at that. I, like you am a young man, and I sure wanted to give myself the best chance at a very long life. I have a 23 yr old son, and an 18 yr old daughter. I want to be around to see them grow into strong adults, and enjoy their lives with them. I also want to keep my own quality of life, and thats what I based my decision on. I chose brachytherapy low dose seed implants. The long term outcome is considered to be equal to or better than the radical prostectomy, but without all of the horrible potential quality of life issues a younger man fears.
If you have made up your mind, then I sure respect it, but I would strongly encourage you to look into the option I chose. I know how crazy it feels to find out at 47 that you have cancerous cells growing in your body, and the fear, and anxiety that comes with it. I respect those that have chosen active surveillance as their course of treatment, but lets face it, once you know its there, its hard to ignore, and doing nothing just doesn't seem right, even though in some cases it is. If I were an older man, say 65 or so, I may have went that way, but at 47 there is just too much time for things to go south. Despite having some bad days, I have had no quality of life issues... no ed whatsoever, no incontinence of any kind, just a bit of urgency every now and then, and a sour stomach. Dont get me wrong, its no picnic, and many days I wish I hadnt had the procedure done, but these are short term effects that will pass, and I have a whole lot of living to do.
Please look at your treatment options, the one you chose is called radical for a reason, and by todays treatment standards, is considered by many to be almost barbaric for a man your age. I wish you the best in your journey, and admire your resolve to take care of the problem. I too felt the need to get this stuff out of my body, and move on. Be well partner.
If you want to drop me a line, and talk a bit more, just send me a message. Id be happy to share, or just listen.
