Profile pictures

I never realized this shortcoming until I arranged to me a fellow HW member and I had no idea what he looked like(or he I). How much trouble is it to provide an optional profile picture option in the forum member profile? In some of my other online forums it's referred to as an avatar image.

Great idea, unless the cost of additional disk storage is too much, for the sheer number of HW membership in general. Other than about the 10 or so folks I have met in person, I have no idea about some of the people I have "talked" to for years here.

"IF" this software allows avatars - it'd be one more thing to moderate...

I went to three GFMPH gatherings in Louisiana.

Perhaps we could put descriptions in our signatures. I am, apparently, fairly easy to describe. When my wife is waiting for me to join her in a department store at the mall she will frequently describe me to a clerk near the entrance using only words that start with "B" -- big, bald, bearded -- and in a crowded mall the clerk will always pick me out. They don't even ask. They just look at me and say "She's in the dressing room in the lingerie department."

At least that's better than "He's in the dressing room in the lingerie department"....

At the mall, I might be the guy sitting on the bench waiting for my wife to finish shopping .
I might even have a package containing whatever I wanted to buy, which was purchased within 15 minutes of arrival. Or I might be wandering through a computer store or department.

(Oh, and I do not like long walks on the beach -- all that sand! <g>)

Why is it that most admins of public forums are always said to be too busy to do anything forum related?

How much trouble is it to modify the forum presentation to offer a "Member Photo" rather than "Personal Homepage"......which by the way is very seldom used.

Actually, I kinda like Foxrun's idea. We can do it ourselves right now. I have decided to unmask slightly. My personal homepage now leads to a photo of me in an official GFMPH Alaska "stupid looking" hat.

Please be cautious in posting a recognizable photo, or a photo served from a site that will tell other users your identity, if your anonymity is important to you. My photo is being served from a Google account that I only use for things I don't want linked to the rest of my social media presence.

Mel, the little house icon under my name should work now for that. If you send me your photo I can whip up a similar page in about ten minutes.

OK, I admit AI did not read every post in this topic but I read most of them. I did not see the suggestion to simply post a link of your photo in some photo type storage area like, photobucket, dropbox, googledrive, etc. No Avatar photo needed.

My little house is now active too. Peter--was your picture taken on Flat Top Mountain outside of Anchorage? Looks similar to the same hike my wife and I made on June 2nd of this year.
