Two years ago, almost to the day, I heard the dreaded news, "You have cancer." It has been a two year nightmare with surgery (a nightmare in itself), which ultimately failed and most recently a round of SRT. The side effects, the mind games, they worry, the forever changed life...but now....just maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. While I am excited I am still a bit reserved since I have been told repeatedly that it could be up to two years before knowing if SRT was successful. But at least the numbers are looking very promising for a change. Before SRT my PSA had risen to .3. A month after SRT my PSA dropped to .1 and now my Uro decided against making me keep an appointment and instead phoned in the good news. Four months after SRT my PSA has dropped to .01. It is so great to actually cry tears of joy for a change! Two years ago Christmas was ruined with the news and now this Christmas I have reason to celebrate and hope and pray the good news continues in the future. What a journey!

VERY good news Jim. You started out like me right after surgery with your first test undetectable. Then your PSA started to rise quickly causing you to have SRT. I stayed at undetectable for about 18 months, now I am sitting on 0.1 waiting to go either way. Latest results were today, another 0.1!

Happy for your early Christmas present and a good way to start the New Year.

RickyD, you caused me a double take for two reasons. First RickyD is my brothers name, who died at the age of 45 from a heart attack and second I am a big Three Dog Night fan (hence my screen name). Putting those two facts together and you gave me a jolt for a moment making me wonder if some kind of super natural forces were at work here. In any case, your post gave me a smile and I will tell you, I did indeed celebrate and I also did a little dance through the tears of joy!

Phenom good luck with the SRT. It was a long, tiring process but I would do it again in a minute for results like this. One thing that still escapes me is at what point would I be consider cured, in remission or whatever? I really wasn't expecting results like this, in fact all the doctors said the same thing, don't be surprised or discouraged if the initial PSA results are higher than when you started as it could take as long as two years to know if radiation was successful. Now the only thing the doctors say is that the radiation found the cancer but they still stop short, this early in, in saying I have been cured. So while I celebrate the good news the wait still gnaws at the back of my brain. But it isn't something I am going to dwell on for now.
