I too am making tentative plans for a Christmas cruise. I find myself thinking the same thoughts that you are having. My first PSA following Proton treatment will be in July. What if it doesn't fall much? My next test after July will be early January. What if it still doesn't fall, or worse what if it goes up? Will I have these nagging thoughts on the cruise? Some of my former coworkers used to refer to these kind of thoughts as negative fantasies of the future. I'm guilty of having them, and I wish I wasn't wired that way.

I know this is no way to live. I'll be taking PSA tests every 6 months for the foreseeable future. Am I to schedule my life around PSA; only go on vacation when I've just had a good report so I can relax? Of course not; it's not right for me, and it's not right for my wife.

P.S. I too have decided to spend some of that nest egg since cancer. Also, I gave up my vegetarian diet of 10 years.

BY ALL MEANS PLAN NOT JUST THIS TRIP BUT ANY OTHER THAT YOU WANT/CAN TAKE.

I made the inside passage cruise out of Seattle, with my late wife and son in the summer of 2005.

Our son was between his junior and senior year and we thought it would be the last time he would want to go with us on an extended vacation. To this day he says it was the best family vacation he ever took. We both enjoyed the cruise as well.

We put a 5 day Canada fishing trip on the front end and stayed an extra week in Seattle on the back.

November of that year my wife was diagnosed with cancer and we never got to make another cruise. Something we talked about often was why we never did things like this earlier.

I hope you have the time of your life and that you fill many more of your days with wondrous adventures.
