Prostate biopsy

Think I put my question on someone else's site. Hope this is right. I'm new here. I had a jump in my psa to 6.7 from 3 in 3 years. My doctor had me do a biopsy. Found 3 sections with cancer. All 3+3. Average of 3+3. But here's my questions. First the biopsy left my but feeling like sand paper after 3 weeks. Is that normal? Second one doc wants the robotic prostectomy while another says I can do a monitoring thing or Braco therapy (radiation). I'm leaning that way as I'm pretty early. Any suggestions. Last but not least it's been 3 weeks and there's still a fair amount of blood. Any idea how much longer this will last.

First welcome to the site. There are a lot of great guys here that have been through it all.

It's unusual but I can still feel the biopsy, its been over a year and after a RP. Blood in the urine was gone in 4-5 days. It took over a week to clear the semen.

The biopsy results are a bit sketchy, it would help if you added a signature with a bit more details like the number of cores and percents.

Unless the biopsy was done at John Hopkins or other leading PC center you need to get a second opinion. As you settle on a treatment you will likely also settle on a clinic. The first thing they will ask you for are the samples so they can score them which will get you the second opinion.

With a G6 3/3 you may be a candidate for treatments with few side effects but it's important to be sure the scoring is correct before signing up to anything.

You can look at the signatures of the other posters to see the typical time line. You have time to learn the options, and pick a good team.

Sharpen, as you have read over and over again, you have a lot of choices but I would narrow it down to one if I was you . . . AS. Find a clinic with a lot of experience in this and also educate yourself on the warning signs. I'm a G9 so AS was not an option for me, wish it was. As I'm not familiar with the process I do know that my monthly PSA tests run me about $50 apiece so once a month testing is reasonable to keep an eye on that marker. Get a second opinion on the biopsy slides from Bostwick or Epstein. They are renowned for reading only prostate biopsies. Is that correct that there was a core with 3+5? It occurs, but it's not a usual occurrence, and it's especially important that you get Epstein or Bostwick to confirm that. It makes a large difference in your therapy options.

I think it helps clear the blood out of semen if you work it out as frequently as possible. I don't like seeing the outcum however. It usually took me 3-4 weeks to clear it. If it's brownish, it's just dried blood.

A couple of thoughts. i was still feeling the effects of the biopsy a year after...wouldn't want another one. I chose AS. So far (2 years) i'm glad i did. Still haven't found a Dr. who specializes in it. i guess there's not a lot of money or prestige in AS.
I use AS a a breathing space while I explore other things...such as diet, enzymes, and anything else i consider worth a shot. It's a different trip from the other options. It comes down to different strokes for different folks I suppose.
