igunial hernias after radical prostectomy

Hello: I had a radical prostectomy on 3-22-2012. During the healing, I developed a right inguinal hernia which was repaired on 7-27-12. Then, I developed one on the left side which was repaired on 12-5-12. Since then, I have had pain at the right hernia site daily but not always intense and not constant. Also, since the prostate biopsy, I have had daily left testicular pain which has increased lately. Neither PT, meds, iontopheresis, trigger point injections nor nerve blocks have helped. Does anyone have a similar experience or a suggestion? thank you and have a great day.

I've had three inguinal hernia repairs. I also had an incisional hernia after the DaVinci. For me, the pains disappeared slowly with time. However, anytime I lift something heavy, I will usually feel one or all of the pains you described.

The testicular pain is the one that really worries me. It is the pain that I associate with needing more surgery. Fortunately, I've had the pain but it goes away in a couple of days. In my case, if I don't see any bulging (the intestine sticking through a hole in th abdominal walk) i don't get too worried.

Welcome to HW.

Lot of us get hernias post RP. I got one post radiation treatment (doubt the two events were related in my case).

I've not had any problems with this post surgery, but it's not uncommon for a hernia repair to fail and need more surgery. Given your description I am assuming that you're working with a doctor to resolve this.

Hopefully some of the other guys will be along soon who've gone through this.

I also have inguinal hernia on my right few month after surgery...
Still under KIV...Cos I m on IGRT ATM...
There is no pain, just a golf ball lump so not really bothersome

I had an inguinal hernia on the left side last year. I think it developed because of over aggressive use of a penis pump. But, it's interesting to know that others have had this following prostate surgery. It was an easy fix and I was back playing golf in under two weeks.

Sometimes I wonder about these dam RALP's . Seems to be some bad side effects over and over.

I have developed a right side Hernia as well.  Let's see -- ED--- incontinence-- Peyronies--- and now a hernia--

Yes, but when I think about the worst case alternative I still am glad I did what I did. Some day prostate cancer will get the attention and research that breast cancer gets.....can you say "pink".

I also had an inguinial hernia which I put down to the penis pump and/or RP.
I was playing golf after 3 weeks. Funny that, I couldn't play before.

Hello:

Thanks for all your replies and information, I appreciate it. Some other issues, quick incontinence recovery due to the Kegel exercises before and after the radical Prostectomy. However, due to the hernias, the recovery from the ED is on going because the pain before and after the 1st iguinial hernia just delayed the recovery process. Muse is painful, my hands shake so the Tri Mix injections was an unpleasant task and Cialis somewhat works. I have thought of the pump. Also, I saw my internist yesterday and I have a pre hernia forming about my navel, just above the robotic scar. However, thank God, I have been cancer free for 3 years.
