Yes. I am 100% on SSD, not for the PC itself, but the permanent damage caused by surgery and radiation as the result of having PC.
Yes, on my own, it was a long protracted fight. Until I got a good SSD lawyer. Once that was done, it was approved in under 6 months.
My advice to anyone considering this route, go to a good SSD attorney on day one. The good ones will know instantly if you have a winnable case or not, and can save you a lot of time and grief. In most states, their fee (cut) is mandated, and is well worth it.
As an addition, just remembered:
My lawyer said its easier once you are well over 50, and if you are 100% vested into the SS systems. I was 56 at dx, and had 34 years of vesting into the system and was 100%. There is a financial side they consider in their decision, someone trying to get on SSD at age 30, regardless of the reason, has a higher level of proof from that point of view.
Now that I am 62 and almost 63, I could have been on early SS anyway. Also, due to my limitations and conditions, I was marked "permanent" from day one, and do not ever have to be reviewed again by SS.
