I have reported before that I am slowly recovering from three years on HT. I just had the T level tested last week. My nadir was three while on HT. After a year off HT it had risen to 17 last October. Now it has come up to 95. While that is nowhere close to normal (normal range 250-1100), it is an improvement.

In an earlier post TallAllen suggested Clomid and Hcg as ways to jumpstart the T and my pcp also suggested considering DHEA. My uro doesn't want to do anything yet and would rather see a natural recovery.

Has anyone had any experience with any of these drugs/supplements?

JNF, I can't answer your question, but I'm in similar territory to you after a year off the sauce. In my case, the testosterone is just high enough so I don't have the worst SEs of HT, but I have no libido. I've told myself that I can live with this if there's no improvement, at the same time I'll be quite interested in what responses you get.

JNF: Do you take Avodart ? It helps increase your testosterone but decreases your dihydrotetosterone I believe.

I was lucky that my testosterone bounced back so fast, I thought one of the causes has been my maintenance dose of Avodart. You might check with your Doc. on that.

Watching your metrics almost as closely as you are. Glad the T- trend, however slow, is on the upswing.

Having been on Lupron since 3-28-13 and Zytiga since 8-26-14, I start IHT next month having weaned down to a one month Lupron shot a couple weeks ago. I go off the Zytiga at end of this month and rely on the rmenants of Provenge as my only treatment after the half lifes of Lupron and Zytiga wear off.

Will take Inspra (Eplerenone) in lieu of Prednisone most take with Zytiga for another 5 days after I stop the Zytiga.

David , yes Jack (JNF) posted on another thread that he does take Avodart as his medical oncologist was on one of the initial clinical trials.

Tall Allen in that thread indicated Fnasteride (Proscar) was not proven to have any benefit on IHT, but I surmise there is no harm either.

The Avodart/Proscar reduce the production of DHT which comes from Testosterone (5 Alpha-Reductase process is interrupted by Avodart/Proscar). Generally when you lower the T you also lower the DHT. Avodart/Proscar make sure the production of DHT is essentially stopped somewhat like Lupron/Eligard stop the gonadal production of testosterone. DHT is a very strong cancer food and it helps to reduce it when fighting the cancer. While I was on Lupron/Eligard I didn't make any T so the Avodart probably couldn't have any positive contribution. Now that I am off HT and much less is still in my system, there may be a helpful effect from the Avodart as David surmises.
