my last psa test showed an increase from3.34 to 5.32,but my testosterone was still <10. it started a year ago this past august with my psa at 96,gleason 8 with a bone met on my left hip.psa got to a low of 2.96 about 3 months ago.any need to worry?thanks

have you had palliative spot radiaion to your hip?

It did not sound like you have yet

no i havent,its been strictly trelstar so far.

You should talk to your medical oncologist about next line therapies: hormonal (e.g., Zytiga, Xtandi), immunotherapy (e,g, Provenge), radiotherapies (e.g., spot radiation, Xofigo). You also qualify for many clinical trials, several combine therapies.

i had another blood draw this morning to check my psa.it went up from 5.32 to 6.01 in the last 2 weeks.my med. onco. is referring me to a dr.thomas at wake forest to try enzalutamide and abiraterone regimen.can anyone fill me in on what to expect from these meds.my doc says i will still take the trelstar every 24 weeks.

Have you read "Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer" By Dr. Patrick Walsh ? If not, now would be a good time to pick up a copy...

Also, in many cases, when Casodex (bicalutamide) is added to the Trelstar a better responce is achieved...The enzalutamide (Xtandi) is sort of a super Casodex...Best of luck to you....

Mickey, It's great that you are getting a second opinion on treatment. If possible get a third from a specialist is prostate cancer. Best of luck BB.

Mickey-Don't know if you mean they will give you enzalutamide +abiraterone at Wake Forest but that sounds unusual. I am on abiraterone (Zytiga) and have no big side effects. You must take prednisone with Zytiga. I think that has caused some weight gain. They tell me if Zytiga stops working, then Xtandi will not work either. And the other way around too.

i got the arm of the study for enzalutamide,i start thursday.what can i expect as far as psa,testosterone,etc?

i started the trial thursday at noon.160mg once daily.so far no real noticeable side effects.

after 60 days on the trial of enzalutamide my psa is down from to 7.75 to 1.90 without any severe side effects.

after 90 days on the zytiga trial,my psa has dropped to 1.30.side effects are minimal but are more intense when they hit.still on the trelstar every 24 weeks.
