Suz and Steve, it sounds like a good visit with an excellent doctor. Surgery most likely would be a curative choice for Steve. However, I would encourage you to ask your brachy doctor about
the above statement and see what he/she says. One of the things I have learned over the years at HW is that there are just as many salvage options (Plan B) after a failed brachytherapy as after a failed surgery. Things like HDR Brachy, seeding with a different isotope and HDR Brachy have all worked well as salvage to LDR Brachy. So be aware that this presumed advantage for surgery is suspect, IMHO.
I know you have insurance issues but I would still recommend that you contact Dr. Brian Moran in Chicago if LDR Brachy is high on your options list. He is certainly one of the best in the world and worth serious consideration.
