New company, featured on CNBC this morning. They are in Walgreens in Arizona, Pennsylvania and California, PSA tests, $12. And a gazillion other tests. No ultra sensitive PSA though

I'm guessing its a matter of time before they do uPSA. Theyve got hundreds of tests listed.
Pretty amazing story, on CNBC this morning, founder of the company is a 31 year old woman, with big plans for expansion. Company is not yet public, but i believe plans to eventually. They have a lipid panel test listed for $9.21
Stated goal is to bring tests that can save lives to people who might otherwise not be able to afford them.

Thanks, Pratoman, this is good information.
The majority of my friends seem to think that you need a doctor's prescript
ion for any type of test or vaccine, or flu shot. More people need to become aware of what is available directly to them.

My 38 year old son asked his doctor about
doing a PSA at his physical this year and the doctor said no, he is too young. And he knows the family history. He will have to travel to Atlanta, about
60 miles, to one of the free testing places .

That reminds me..when I was 39, I was at the doctor, and said, well, I have a big birthday coming up, going to need to get some tests done. He said, no, we do that at 50. Now I wish that I would have pushed for it....

My sons will be turning 40 in the next several years and all will get a baseline PSA test. It certainly won't be up to any doctor to decide. It has always been very easy to get PSA tests done at most any walk in lab. It is terrible that we have so many people think that doctors have to order these.

Prato, thanks for sharing. In addition to a nice service this looks like a great business concept. Wish I had thought it it....

My son is 35, i told him, and he finally agreed, to get a baseline at his next checkup (probably a year from now, as he just had one about
2 months ago).
I told him if the doctor says no, just tell him the family history (father, grandfather) and insist on it, and if he refuses, find another doctor.I think he will do so.

Sometimes when wintering in Mexico and I'm due for a PST test, I just walk into a storefront lab and get one...$35, results posted the same day....

California has a law that delays release of lab results to the patient for 14 days. I wonder what happens if a man gets a PSA test without a doctor's order, could he get the results immediately?
This is from Quest:
Due to state laws in California (14 days) and Oregon (7 days) requiring that your physician have an opportunity to discuss your results with you prior to our release of results to you, you may experience additional delays. In all circumstances and in accordance with HIPAA requirements you will receive your results from us no later than 30 days from the date of your request.

"Cheap" doesn't mean what's best for us. I've followed the advice of my primary care physician and Urologist ... to have my tests processed by the same labs each time, or by labs which follow the same protocol. Results can and do vary by lab. In order for me and my medical team to advise me properly ... I'm sticking with the same lab.

My son will be 49 this December. I assume 50 is when he will normally be offered a PSA test. My father had prostate cancer, and I have it. I began being tested at age 50 and my initial PSA was .6. I was tested every year after that. It was another 10 years before it got to 1.2. I have strongly suggested my son have his PSA tested at his next annual physical later this year, but he doesn't seem interested. He's still at the age where he expects to live forever. I suppose he'll have to have a friend his age diagnosed with prostate cancer and then he'll see it differently.

I walked into a Walgreens in Lakewood Colorado today and asked the pharmacist if they had any information about
this new arrangement with Theranos. They knew nothing about
it....
