Guys, may I kindly ask for your advice again. My web searches have not provided with the amount of information I would have liked.
I started suffering from acute prostatitis 30 days after my biopsy. I am now on my second round of antibiotics (amoxicillin) and, although I thought it cleared the UTI quite fast, I am now quite poorly seven days after starting the treatment. I am reluctant to visit a hospital on the weekend and my plan is to wait until next week. I managed to get an appointment for Wednesday.
Is there really a relevant risk of delaying medical attention?
Many thanks in advance.

Does your doctor have an on-call number you can call? I am with Kaiser and they have advice nurses you can call after hours for questions like that. If you're concerned, you might want to put in a call.
It's really only a call you can make, but if you've got a fever, or can't pee or something like that, you should be seen. If if you're just vaguely, "feeling unwell" you might be able to wait.
But I am not a doctor, just some random guy on the internet.

What do you mean by "quite poorly?" If you can't pee, get to the ER immediately and tell them you are suffering from urinary retention. If your fever is high and aspirin/ibuprofen won't keep it down, go to ER.

Not to put too fine a point on it but this post shows how dangerous the "internet" can be...even this supposedly highly informed site. Here is a guy with a potentially serioius situation..does he go to the ER? NOOOOO...he asks Healing Well what he should do ? Seriously boys?

It happens more often that you'd think. Which is why I'll often remind posters that I am not a doctor, just some random guy throwing out opinions.

When I developed an infection after my biopsy, I went to my GP who prescribed an antibiotic. I also rang my Uro and spoke to his receptionist, just to let them know what was happening.
Within 5 minutes the Uro rang me and said get back in here to the hospital IMMEDIATELY, these infections can become very serious. Needless to say I followed orders, and was in hospital undergoing intravenous antibiotics for 5 days.
I think you should be going to the hospital without delay.

Thanks guys.
I am aware of the dangers with regard to urinary retention and it is not quite as bad. The fever has also gone down.
Going to ER/E&A on a Saturday evening in the UK should not be taken lightly. The level of service is very poor.
I was initially surprised that my physician/GP did not admit me to hospital but just sent me home with antibiotics. However, as the symptoms improved at first I did not question him. I also cannot really afford to stay away from work at present as there is a risk of my role being made redundant.
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to decide on the optimal path for taking care of one's health. My decision which treatment to chose will necessarily be influenced by the amount of time I will have to take off work. Reality has a way of interfering with the best laid plans.

Don't get me wrong BT, I hear you with regard to health/life/reality issues....just don't want to see guys waiting too long to take action. As a sheep farmer, I'm acutely aware of how ANY treatment /procedure will affect the farm , not so much in terms of actual employment , being self employed, but just keeping it going.

These are symptoms of prostatitis:
Painful or burning sensation during urination
Difficult urination
Frequent urination, particularly at night
Pain in the abdomen, groin or lower back
Pain in the area between the scrotum and rectum
Pain or discomfort in or around penis or testicles
Painful ejaculations
you had better try the pill called Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill
