Any hotel recommendations for Marina del Ray

Just curious.

We will be there for a couple of days as part of a Calif. trip (Dr. Lam appointment).

Any hotel recommendations?

The usual: reasonably priced and reasonably nice,
For our stay, in Marina del Rey

There's a nice Ritz Carlton there, but that may not fit the definition of "reasonably priced."

That Ritz Carlton was my customer in the past. I think they were reasonably priced for a four diamond resort located in a high end area such as MDR. Just saying.

Yeah, they are way too expensive. I can get a suite for $4000 per night.

The cheapest is $389.

(This is before looking at AAA or AARP discounts).

That's more than I want to spend. We are actually leaving on Wednesday. We have booked a condo for one-month (Palm Desert area). That will be our base.

We will be visiting our daughter and her husband as part of the trip. We want to stay with them for 2 nights, and then hotel it in Marina del Rey for 2 nights.

We are looking at maybe staying at the Jolly Roger Hotel on Washington Blvd. Dumb name, but it looks like a decent place at half the price of the Ritz.

But I am still open to suggestions.

Mel, i think you will find hotels generally pretty expensive in Marina Del Rey, just because of the nature of the area. Try taking a loot at Redondo Beach, or one of the other nice areas within 10 miles of MDR. i wen tto the Marriott website and found hotels under $200 in Redondo Beach. Marriot is my preferred name, it may not be yours, but i'm sure they are all comparable.

I like Marriott too.

Jolly Roger (sounds like a Disney Hotel, but looks nice in their website) seems to fit my criteria.

I prefer the convenience, too. It is probably walking distance to Dr. Lam

Hotels.com has reasonable rates. And I know you were at PCRI at Marriott LAX. These are reasonably close to MDR. Just curious, I am a bit surprised that these docs don't have rates for a local property knowing that they have many coming from out of state. I know their PCRI event does in fact have reduced rate rooms during the event. But I always use Hotels.com because I get free rooms from time to time through them. Using it just now I see reasonable rates in the 130-160 range (of course surprises like resort fees and area taxes will apply at registration. But I just chose arbitrary dates...

I've stayed at the Jolly Roger and it's a decent, two star kind of place. Worth the savings in other words.

Dr. Lam's office used to have a certain ID that patients could use at a selected hotel to get very good rates. That is no longer the case (I checked).

Tony, you are correct about those rates and that's where I found Jolly Roger listed.

Walk? In Southern California? Wow...this will take me a while to grasp that concept...

PS Redondo Beach is home base for me...if you do end up staying here let me know and I'll buy you and your wife an adult beverage.

MRD is quite close to LAX. We always stay at the Renaissance which is directly across the street from the Budget rental lot. Fly into LAX, get shuttle to Budget, get your car then check into the Renaissance then go where you want. At the end of the trip we always got the 6am flight out of LAX back to ATL so we drop off the rental the evening before our flight and walk across the street to the Renaissance, have dinner there then catch the 4am shuttle from the hotel back to LAX. The Marriott is only 2 blocks away so that is also an option within walking distance of the Budget lot.

We visit my son annually there and you can't beat the Jamaica Bay Inn. Great rooms and food right on the marina and decent rates!

Thanks folks.

Booked Jolly Roger.

With the high taxes and all, it was about $280 for 2 nights. Can't beat that. It includes breakfast.
