JWNY
Sorry to hear about your PSA, sounds like a pretty quick rise. May not be cancer, but for sure it requires a discussion with a competent Urologist.
I almost hesitated to give you the name, but I think it would serve you well, with a caveat or two.
I would recommend Dr Ash Tewari. He is Chief of Urology at Mt Sinai, but his office is on 58th and Madison. He is terrific both in skill and bedside manner. If I was just getting started on this journey with a high PSA of unknown origin, I would go to him with no hesitation.
Now the caveat - He is a surgeon, one of the top in the tri state at
Rea, if not in the U.S. However, he is not one of those guys, in my experience, who wants to cut right away. In fact he has patients on Active Surviellance, and my understanding is that he won't hesitate to recommend it if it's appropriate. Also, at least in my case, I asked him about surgery vs radiation, and he did not hesitate to say that I should definitely speak to a Radiation Oncologist before deciding on surgery.
He is both competent, and has a kind manner about him.
There are many other top urologists in NYC, no doubt. Most of them are surgeons but they all will guide you through the process of figuring out what your problem is, hopefully it will turn out not to be Prostate Cancer.
If you are on Long Island, the name Dr Felix Badillo comes to mind. And if you are in Westchester, look up Dr Ben Spencer, who moved their from Columbia Prysbeterian about two years ago. He did my first biopsy, I felt comfortable with him and his training,
BTW Columbia Prysbeterian has a rep for one of the top hospitals for urology in the US, when I was diagnosed they were ranked number 5 by U.S. news and World Reports. But I think quite a number of their urologists have left the practice over the last two years, so not sure what's going on there,
