Complete last chemo treatment, Yippee!

Well last treatment was on Monday 8/11. I am now past the much dreaded crash phase and beyond feeling dizzy and legs that feel like rubber bands I am feeling a sense of improvement. I am not sure that the treatment has had any beneficial impact as my PSA is virtually unchanged. I will be getting a scan two weeks from now to see if there is any change good or bad.

I have some disquieting side effects that I hope will improve with time. The worst being the neuropathy in hands, feet and tongue (includes lips and face). Gabapentin is no help.

What's next? Doctor has mentioned Zytiga but I have already failed Xtandi and seems they work about the same. Plus I do not want to take prednisone period.

I would like to thank you guys who gave encouragement and coping advice during my treatment. It is good to have this forum where one can speak openly, rant, complain and just plain whine. I do not talk about it much to my family and then only my brother and his wife. (they usually ask and have helped me through a few tough spots) Living alone has made it more difficult but I usually find a way to muddle through.

Sometimes Zytiga or Xtandi will work again after chemo. There are clinical trials you may qualify for too.

I've followed your posts, and want to extend a handshake --- congratulations on getting through your series of chemotherapy treatments.

Getting through chemo treatments can be like navigating through a swamp, sometimes --- through it all, you've kept forging ahead --- and your iron will is evident.

I've got a few friends of mine who share my same diagnosis --- several of us have been through chemotherapy treatments --- and now we're all on either ZYTIGA or XTANDI.

Keep in touch with us here --- just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you and thankful you forged ahead through all of your recent treatments.

Hi Don, congratulations on completing chemo! I know it is a grind, especially on the crash days. I am now through chemo 3 and hoping to get to the end without anymore issues. Knock on wood. I wish you luck on the next treatment phase. Take care. -JR

Good to hear you are done. You will see improvements with the neuropathy and other things, although they sometimes come slow.
You've made it through a tough treatment. Any others in your pipeline should be a breeze from here. If you've still showing PSA there are scans that can show where your problems are. Whatever your next phase, hope it's much easier.

Thanks Guys. TA I am trying to get my doctor to talk to me about the MATCH trial as they are one of the facilities conducting research. I have also bookmarked the Yertruda (?) trial that you posted about. I really think my path forward will be best through trials. I do not think there is anything else.

CaliJR hang in there I almost gave up after no. 5. I think I was at the nadir of my life's experience that week.

Cyclone, and a handshake to you as well. Your encouragement kept me going. I hope my lung mets react as well as yours.

Gunner and Newton, hands are improving already. Gunner never truer words were spoken...I can think of nothing as grueling as the chemo.
