1st real excursion since dx/tmts. OT?

Observations... from inside an airport terminal. The people...the ones of you who've lost a loved one...a family member...you know how, when...the day it happens...you go out...and the world, the people...They're carrying on as it THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING HAS CHANGED!! They don't know...what you've been through that day. It's a similar experience for me today. This first "trip for David in Davids world....(not the medical community's) now almost 2 years ago. The first year after dx I spent researching and in fear. Then the operation. And since then...just one "other worldly" experience of side effects after anotjer. And now...I'm off. LOL. Yesterday? Yesterday I flew to SC to inspect a dented airplane for possible investment purposes. And today...heading (commercial) to Clearwater to ferry a boat back to Tennessee. I CANNOT believe... LOL... What I've been through! ! And now? Today? I'm free!. My body's been treated for CANCER! It almost seems surreal. It's almost as if I have not processed that information yet...There hasn't been time. The time was spent...until now...IN IT. On the inside. Now? I'm on the outside looking back (in?)...and it just is well weird! As I sit here it occurs to me..."this could come back". PSA has not even been on my own radar screen since surgery. (There's been bigger fish to fry). Now...am I "catching up" to where people are normally after a prostatectomy. ..that has fewer issues?? I believe that's how it's going down?? Anyway...i just feel SO FREE of it. PSA check in oct. but...man. SIGH. It's OK with me...today.

There's so many good men and women on this forum... dealing with this crap. Right now...on this page. In these active threads. I hate this stuff and I tear for you (or is it me I tear for?)

But...there's this girl...i like her

The world looks fresh. ..new...to me now. Everything is different. My smile is more ready...I'm more available to others. The planes...They're toys! Colored are brighter. There's less weight than before dx. I'm not afraid like I've been m ok st of my life. Not the same. My emotions...They're fresher. I want to know other people. "Who are you?" No agendas.

You've latched onto the "bigger fish to fry" saying (seen you re-use it multiple times), and now I'm glad to see you embrace the meaning behind it.

Your iatrogenic issue is not likely to be a problem for multiple reasons, and your other post-surgery issues are behind you. Glad to see you moving on.

Go get to know that girl...

I'll tell you that I got to know a girl, got married and have a wonderful, exciting and very fulfilling new relationship...all post-RP. It's a part of your life, but it doesn't have to take over your life.

I-T, I'll admit it, I became teary-eyed when I read your post. It reminds me of myself after heart surgery (with many complications after it). I heartily congratulate you, may you long enjoy your new life.

After heart surgery, we often counsel new patients "Don't sweat the small stuff. . . and, by the way, it's ALL small stuff." We only get one life, so live it, don't miss it!

I've had many of those same feelings as I look back to the hell I went through last year with diagnosis, surgery, then Lupron, then radiation. It's almost like a bad dream and makes me appreciate these good moments even more - I'm very grateful to be feeling like my old self.

Yes....it is a very wierd feeling post treatment, not yet knowing the results. Not even counting the folks you don't know, let's talk about the ones you do know who are aware of your Dx.

Folks ask me about it and I tell them my treatments are done.

With a sigh of relief they say "Great to have it behind you now"

So who am I now?

The guy who used to have cancer?

The guy who is going to say in a few months....or years....the cancer is back, or the guy who is going to say in a few months that the treatments weren't effective?
