Just completed my last of 38 treatments today for SRT. Side effects have been fairly minimal during treatment, some intestinal issues and mild rectal bleeding, some mild bladder irritation but nothing horrible so far. The RO tells me radiation is the gift that keeps on giving but odds are slim of serious complications. The follow up appointment isn't for four months and PSA draw the last week of February. Hard to get a straight answer about
what to expect if SRT is successful. RO said if it's ten it was unsuccessful but success is determined over time and several PSA draws although he only tests every six months. Does that sound right? My last PSA before treatment was 0.149. i would think it would be undetectable if it is a success but he said he'd be happy if it was 0.2 or similar. Any comments appreciated.

Time will tell but I think PSA should be tested every 3 months. Did you have ADT ? If not you'll know sooner if SRT worked.

No ADT with the SRT. Just hoping it worked and initially they told me to wait three months before PSA draw because it was likely to go up after radiation. Now they say wait four months. I'm looking forward to the break but wanted to know if I should expect it to be undetectable if it's successful. I can't seem to get a straight answer or maybe there isn't one.

PSA lower than it was would be a good initial response, I think.

Congratulations upon your finishing up with the SRT. It does take time -right. Yes, it is hard to wait and see what has happened if anything. Enjoy the break, there is nothing that you can do right now but come back in February for that initial test. Good Luck- hope you are a big fat zero!

Hang in there!
It has just been a year since my SRT. I haven't had side effects during or after the radio therapy.

Great news on finishing. The best PSA result to hope for is, lower.
Testing once every six months is likely okay as SRT can take a long time.
don't worry about
the SEs, they'll find you someday.
Hang in there,

I just finished 38 rounds of SRT earlier this month. It took about
two weeks for my insides to feel better. The lower the PSA the better. What is also critical is how fast it increases. You also may ask about
hormonal treatment.
I have a rare form of Ductal Cancer which does not always raise your PSA. Had surgery last April (had to argue with the surgeon) and my PSA went to <0.1 in about
6 weeks. Even with a non detectable PSA, I started hormonal in June and started radiation in August. Based on some recent studies people had better long term outcomes doing hormonal and radiation, and sometimes chemo after surgery even with low PSA levels.

It's a great feeling to finish SRT, congrats!
I'm a bit surprised they didn't put you on ADT (Lupron.)
So far I haven't had any side effects from the SRT, fingers crossed I won't have any in the future.

Thanks for the responses. Hoping I get as lucky as some of you have. Time will tell and nothing to do now but wait and enjoy each day.
