Does anyone know if the Genetic test sample has to be from one of the cancerous cores taken from the biopsy or can it come from one of the none cancerous core samples? I had a biopsy in August and all 12 samples came back negative. Can I have the test performed on one of those samples? What is the cost and does insurance cover it?

Instead of a genetic test, I would be pushing for a saturation biopsy...A completely different procedure, if you have prostate cancer it almost always finds it..

Fairwind, Quoting my Dr. at MSKCC " your prostate is small at 30 mm, you had four biopsy's , 48 samples, the last two biopsy's were MRI guided, I don't think it is the cancer that is causing the high PSA." With 48 samples takes it is almost like a saturation biopsy. From my signature you can see I had one core positive back in 2012. Thinking the genetic test might tell me the aggressiveness of any hidden cancer.

Yes, the Prolaris test is similar to the OncotypeDX test, which is preferred at Johns Hopkins. Both have to assess the cancerous cells from a biopsy slide.

The PHI test is a blood test, which is not expensive, and can provide good predictive guidance on the aggressiveness of your PCa.

Wait, you have had three negative biopsies? OK - then just do the PHI.
