15 years since open RP surgery, 7 years since salvage radiation. It's been on a mercifully slow trip up to now. I just got my latest PSA --0.51 up from 0.23 in October, which was up fro 0.04 last April. I guess this son of a b**** has finally figured out my immune system. So it goes... I'll be 71 in three weeks.
With luck I'll still beat this sucker for another decade, and thinking of the sorry shape my father was in in his 80s, that will be good enough.

It sounds like you are a candidate for HT soon huh? Side effect' s suck, but you already heard that. Try to keep as much muscle mass as you can by staying as active as possible and you're gonna get that decade. Probably in good shape too. Happy Birthday. I think you are what is now considered heading into middle age smilewinkgrin

On the one hand, that sucks. On the other hand, you sound like a fighter, and have had long responses to whatever treatment you've had up to now. No reason to think you won't have a long response again. I wouldn't bet against you B!

avg 8 years from recurence to metataztion 5 years to death without treatment...An old stat..maybe true...maybe not...something to hold your hat on...why limit yourself to your Dad's shape..or what happened to him...thes are the kind of things that happen to men as they age...some get old from it... grab malaise as a friend...slowly spiral down...others don't...we are all going to die...many of us never live...I won't quote Shakespear or any of the others again...you...and others...know exactly what I'm saying...the battle has been won...grab the concept of life for what it really is...do not be fooled...life is not a magus's trick...you want that to be true...let it be...who is the real realist here???...in surfing..they teach newbies to look where they want to go and lean to it...movement...is required on the surfer's part to follow the eye...be of good cheer...so much more than "just" words... PS.. speaking of surf...north shore N/W 9' swell going down...light winds...tide a bit high...still...nothing's perfect...could be glass...off soon for rise of the sun... cool

Bolo - with luck I'll take after my mother. She just turned 92 - has multiple health problems but is still mentally sharp. My father was pretty much down the rat-hole of Alzheimers by his early 80s.

Yes Bohemond of Antioch. In college I read Anna Comnena's memoir. She was daughter of the emperor of Constantinople during the first crusade. Bohemond led what I've jokingly called a medieval biker gang - he and his men were raiding and pillaging well before the crusaders decided to come from France to raid and pillage on their own. Bohemond became her father's prisoner - in the days when important prisoners were held for ransom -- and from Anna's description of Bohemond- his blonde nordic hair, etc. It seemed to me that Anna had a crush on him. I don't have Bohemond's heart-throb good looks, and what's left of my hair is gray.

Your hair may be gray, but your spirit is strong. I don't see you as giving up at 80, so keep on fighting the battle. Maybe by 90 or so they will have yet another round of treatments to use.
