Hi everyone

Hope you are all well. So my husbands doctor just called (he is on vacation) with his final pathology. My husband is the worst for details and of course he called when I was not home! He did say that the nodes were neg Alfonso with everything else but that there was extra capsule extension. He staged t3a.

The surgeon said he was pleased with the outcome and when asked he said he was confident he got all the cancer. My concern after researching is that some doctors recommend immediate treatment with this result as a just in case. At the risk of sounding negative, I worry that we have been given a false sense of security and I can't get answers for another two weeks until he returns. I would love if someone can shed light on this result

Any advise/opinions would be very appreciated.

Enjoy the report, heal, have a good time, don't worry, read a book, how about going out for a nice dinner or see a good movie...

Nothing in that report would worry me much. What you really want is that first PSA test which will be a lot more informative about the effectiveness of RP and it's far to early for that.

In any case, even if a follow up treatment was required, it wouldn't start for a few months, so you have a lot of time to wait. Waiting two weeks is a killer on the anxiety, but it won't affect anything. Personally I think you've got a great surgeon if he is willing to call on his vacation.

and I'd be surprised if any follow up treatments are needed.

In the Shop gives good advice.

It is way too early to tell much of anything. All you know for sure is the T3a staging after pathology. That could mean there was some evidence of cancer outside the capsule. The first PSA test will give you, and your doctor, more information.

I'd say enjoy not having the catheter, take some walks, hope your continence returns, and live life to the fullest. It's likely the worst is over.

If the surgeon was confident he got all the cancer it means negative margins, which is the report we want. I agree with InTheShop and tennisplayer, concentrate on something else than cancer for now. The next mile stone is the first PSA result. It that is zero there is good chance you are ready and done with this disease.

No need to worry yet, as was said already, enjoy the info you have. A T3 staging means the cancer was at the edge but did not affect the lymph nodes.

Been T3a for nearly ten years. Had SRT two years ago. Psa is<.006.
No need to worry just pay attention.

Thanks everyone, have a much clearer understanding now of the staging! Going to keep worry levels to a minimum until the first PSA... will keep you posted!

For me, for many of us, it took some time to adjust to the new reality. I hope that his surgery proves a perfect success in eliminating pCa.

With no cancer found in the lymph nodes, there's a good chance it was confined to what the surgeon excised. My surgeon took out 44 nodes and one of them had a 1 mm section of cancerous cells so that triggered ADT and then SRT.
