Joint stiffness from Lupron

Hi All,

I'm looking for suggestions for relieving joint stiffness from Lupron. Thank God, I have done well with ADT (one year in). The only really bothersome SE of this joint stiffness just started about a month ago. I hadn't noticed it for the first eleven months. If I sit in a chair for extended time (IE. watching a movie) or ride in a car for a couple of hours, it is actually difficult to walk for a few moments after standing up. No pain or soreness during exercise, just the stiffness after sitting.

My cancer doctors have pretty much said "that's just the way it is on ADT". My PCP at least had a recommendation of taking glucosamine. I got a big bottle from Costco but after almost two weeks on the glucosamine I haven't really noticed an improvement. Any one found something that really helped them?

Prior to the Lupron I had no joint issues at all. Then just at the end (9 months) I developed joint stiffness in most of my fingers almost overnight. It was a "trigger finger" effect where the joints catch and lock, more annoying than painful. This has resolved over time and now only my left index finger has stiffness in the mornings.

I think whatever you are experiencing now will go away when the Lupron times out.

I had the same stiff joint issues on Lupron. Since switching to Firmagon a few months ago the stiffness seemed to go away.

I hated that part of HT. When I would tell people that it aged me 15 years, the stiffness was a lot of what I was talking about. I'd just try and be as active as you can, but I know that you've done a really good job there already. Bobby Mac's comment about Firmagon helping compared to Lupron is interesting...

I take celecoxib and duloxetene for joint pain. I also exercise daily. These help a lot. If you're sedentary while on ADT you're in for pain and stiffness.

Hey Schoolpsych:
I am not on HT but I have had knee stiffness for years just as you describeas a result of OsteoA.
I take Curcumin and Boswelia, both are herbs readily available from Amazon and are "anti inflammatory". They work well for me taking some of each in combo twice a day.

Thank you for the responses all, these are helpful. Michael_T, yes, when it first started, my wife thought I was being silly - acting like I was a much, much older man getting up from the chair. She was pretty concerned when she realized it was no joke. We are both happy though that it seems to clear up after a few seconds of moving.
