I had Provenge in Oct 2016. There was a longer than usual drive to both the leukapheresis site and the infusion site. I had some side effects during the 3 hour leukapheresis procedure, due to some toxicity effects of the citrate agent used to prevent coagulation in the collecting machine, which sometimes chelates blood calcium a bit too rapidly for the body to immediately offset. I experienced tingling of my lips and face, then a false sensation that the couch was constantly vibrating, then a very disconcerting feeling of "buzzing" all over. (During leukapheresis session #2 I also had a massive hot flash, and came close to passing out due to a transient vasovagal event.) Just sitting there for that long with needles in both arms and squeezing a little rubber ball or something was more tiring than I anticipated, too. I was glad to have my spouse on-site, and available to drive home, stopping for a light meal on the way home. Similarly, having somebody there during the infusions was helpful, too. I did not have any immediate side effects due to the infusion, itself, but they can happen. about 36 hours after the first infusion I experienced some considerable tiredness and weakness for several days, similar to having the flu, but without any of the nasal drips or coughing. For subsequent appointments, I could usually manage driving to them, but found I was more comfortable if someone else drove home.
